Is it visa debit? If so it might.

Hellokittymania · 27/04/2020 20:45

I carried on using our US bank card for a while after we rapatted to the UK because it was my saved payment on Google and I was always too bone idle to find my wallet to get the details for my UK card. It worked fine.

PigletJohn · 27/04/2020 21:10

has US discovered chip and pin yet?

zucchinieggplant · 27/04/2020 21:18

@pigletjohn don't be silly Grin

CoffeeRevelLove · 27/04/2020 21:39

Pigletjohn almost. It's getting more prevalent. I amazed my friend with my contactless card... she thought only applepay worked. Grin

Oh my God everyone, sorry about that. I'm visually impaired and speak several languages, excuse the dictation going off in French… I was trying to see if anyone knew about Sainsburys… 😂😂

Coffee, my mom has a hard time remembering that I am in the UK, and things are done differently… She's in Florida, and she keeps telling me that Bank of America does blah blah blah I have to keep telling her that Barclays does things differently…

zuccini

apparently the answer is yes, but.....

"While the USA has started to roll out a chip-and-PIN system across the country, it is not yet used by all stores.19 Feb 2020"

"started" FFS.

Would they take paypal - you could use your US credit card in paypal.

I tried and failed to use a UK credit card for an online shop in the US but I was able to use PayPal.

mindutopia · 27/04/2020 22:45

Yes, it should, assuming the bank doesn’t think the charge looks suspicious. My family is in the US and I have a duplicate bank card for them that I use to make purchases when they are visiting, including in store and online shopping (Usually shop at Tesco but can’t see how it would be too different). It will go through the ‘credit card’ function (most US cards can be used both with a pin as a debit card and as a credit card with a signature). I also used my US bank card here for years when I still had one. Worked fine, but high fees.

PigletJohn · 27/04/2020 23:38

I have friends and relations from overseas who can't order online when over here because the card is not registered to a UK delivery address. Presumably this is a basic fraud check.
