Single parent saving vs renting..

Hello.
So just recently I’ve been thinking about a possibility of saving for a mortgage. I’m currently renting aged 29. I work part time salary everting included around £1,800 P/M & have been in a pension since I was 23 years old. I can’t do full time as (no childcare and no family help) also want to stay in my sector NHS. I have one child and I would love another but realistically I can’t imagine it happening. Anyway back to the point. I currently rent HA and I’m happy enough as I manage to live a decent life. Due to this pandemic I realised that I could save more than I have (not really saved at all). I do enjoy holidays (really important saves my sanity). Long term I know renting is dead money. I think it’s a huge responsibility for 1 parent only also I could save for a house for years than have to sell it when I’m old as I may need Carers or have to go into a nursing home.
Has any single mum had the same thoughts?!
Also please don’t give me examples of those who bought houses 20 odd years ago as it’s different times, a lot seemed to have had a helping hand up the ladder or inherited. Not a fair comparison.
