What nice things have you overheard from neighbours gardens during lockdown?

Being on a corner plot, we can easily hear people in 4 or 5 gardens, many of whom we've never met as it is their back garden backing onto our back garden with fences & hedges in between.
One family has, I guess, a pre-schooler. It was his birthday a couple of weeks ago and he had a swing. Much excitement! He has been trying to learn to swing himself with his parents regularly saying "you've got to move your legs in and out not just say "legs out; legs in"". He seems to have nailed it this weekend!
Another family have a baby who seems to gurgle and chuckle a lot and just sounds very contented with life.
Someone a bit further away has a competent pianist (although I'd quite like them to move onto another piece). I'm less enthusiastic about the violin playing as they're still at the very screechy stage.

My neighbour at the bottom of the garden sweet talking his dogSmile

Watto1 · 26/04/2020 16:21

I overheard my neighbour discovering over the phone that she was going to be a Grandma. She was squealing with delight! It was lovely to hear.

SnugglySnerd · 26/04/2020 16:23

I dread to think what our neighbours have overheard although it's probably given them a good laugh. They will have heard me saying a lot of things like " quick, go on the potty!" "Nevermind we can wash them" and "nooooo! Don't put that in the wee"! We have twins.

NurseJaques · 26/04/2020 16:24

DH did a BBQ last night whilst I was at work for him and dc, next door but one shouted over that it smelt bloody brilliant and he'd be round with a bottle of wine after lockdown to enjoy a steak. Then the lady at the house in between came out and said don't plan anything without me! I thought how nice when DH told me, instead of a lot of the moaning about neighbours that goes on Smile

I also love to hear next doors tiny baby do that newborn cry in the garden (although I'm sure they are not so keen!)

Lordfrontpaw · 26/04/2020 16:29

OH EVERYONE CAN HEAR US EEEEEEE Hahahahahhahahah! Squeeeeeeeeeellllll!’ ‘Isn’t it LOUD???? OOOOOOOOO all the neighbours can hear!!!!!’

I’ve been getting this from leatherlungs/partner of leatherlungs sitting on their roof overlooking my balcony. It’s like a bloody cave here and their voices really carry.

That and the people who arrived to party at the usually empty house a couple of buildings down (on a roof terrace). Also very VERY loud voices. They are drinking so getting louder.

Why do people holler at people sitting two feet away? Any time now the people opposite will set up their Mac on their dining room table next to their open window and Skype someone. the scream their heads off and get drunk. This goes on for hours most days now until late evening.

I’m not very happy...the little girl downstairs is chartering away to her mum and that very cute (she is a sweetie). The rest of them - I really don’t like 😡

lived here 3 years. Close friends with both next door neighbours. 1 does gardenening with my DD through the fence as it's their job and I'm not green fingered in the least. They have such great through the lessons together. There are also two very sweet pre school girls at the back of us. We've never spoken, but my kids and the two little girls call to each other and have lovely chats at the bottom of the garden

Our one side neighbours have a fancy shed where they drink gin and We hear them FaceTiming their grandchildren who live in Kenya.
Our other side neighbour has a rather prolific marijuana habit and we can't work out which one of them it is, so refer to them as 'smokey joe' until we know for sure.

They can clearly hear our ds as he talks incessantly all day because both have mentioned it, in a 'Gosh he talks a lot' kind of way in conversation over the fence. He really does.

LightHeartedOnly · 26/04/2020 16:36

Our neighbours are mostly all retired couples. I know our daughter is a source of entertainment. I can hear them chuckling over the fence at some of the silly things she says. They were caught out once because my daughter once said something funny and heard them chuckle. She then bellowed "I can hear Phil and Sheila laughing mummy". Obviously their laughter then became louder Smile I'm lucky with our neighbours, all lovely.

CarpeVitam · 26/04/2020 16:48

@LightHeartedOnly, aww, that's lovely 😊

OneMomentInHistory · 26/04/2020 16:53

Our neighbours had a little birthday party in the garden for one of the kids, with various family members on their phones and iPads all singing happy birthday. Was very sweet!

Sparklyring · 26/04/2020 17:17

The man in the garden beyond ours plays out with his little girls for hours and hours, playing & teaching and very rarely sounds fed up or exasperated.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 26/04/2020 17:20

Our next door neighbours daughter and granddaughter came to live with them earlier this year. I love to hear her chatter in the garden.

Thunderpunt · 26/04/2020 17:31

I love hearing my neighbours 2 little boys playing in the garden, one has a new bike and is learning to ride it, plus he knows all his dinosaurs and I hear him with them in the sandpit. Fond memories of my 2 (now often grumpy mid/late teens) at the same age. On the flip side I have just had to shut the kitchen door (I'm in garden) on DH who is on FaceTime to his aunt I. Italy, they are all loud when they speak face to face, via the internet is unreal - it's like they both have to shout all the way to Italy

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2020 17:42

Our next door neighbours seem to play outside with their DC all day. They never lose their tempers or get cross, not even exasperated, and perhaps that's because the kids are angelic.

A far cry from me when our DC were little, I am sorry to say.

listsandbudgets · 26/04/2020 17:47

My neighbours children shouting surprise and then singing happy anniversary mummy and daddy to their parents :) it was lovely.

Also overheard on hte other side "Mum you know acid rain, well will there be corona rain". That's not such a pleasant thought Grin

Littlelemonposset · 26/04/2020 18:06

Little boy at the garden backing onto mine singing happy birthday to me solidly for nearly 30 mins. When he stopped, I wished him a happy birthday only to hear back a resigned adult voice wearily saying “it’s not his birthday” Grin made me chuckle

caramac04 · 26/04/2020 18:13

The children next door but one playing and laughing in their garden.. A bit of normality in these difficult times.

pisspants · 26/04/2020 18:13

the lady behind me is a foster carer with a young boy at the moment. It must be so very tough for her but it is lovely to hear him playing happily in the back garden and he has made friends with the kids next door to them and I love hearing them chatter chatter!
Also the little boy next door has the cutest laugh!
I dread to think of what they hear from me!

Grabbber · 26/04/2020 18:17

One of our neighbours out the back, who I don’t know, has lost “Bella” at the minute. I don’t know if Bella is a child or a pet but they are shouting loudly for her and sounding increasingly annoyed Shock

Purplequalitystreet · 26/04/2020 18:19

Other way around, but I was saying to DP while we were in the garden that it was a shame we didn't have a paddling pool for DS, cos he was loving messing around with the washing up bowl.

That evening, our lovely neighbour threw one over the fence. It was so lovely Smile

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/04/2020 18:35

Snuggly our twins are 2 and the other day I heard the lady at the back of us Skyping someone: "and there's a woman who backs onto us who's got identical toddler triplets " Grin

strawberry2017 · 26/04/2020 18:35

I'm hoping my neighbours (elderly, retired) appreciate the daily performances by my 2 year old. She swings round the washing line singing let it go. But literally only those 3 words! I say singing but really it's more of a shout!

cricketmum84 · 26/04/2020 18:36

OMG I just read the OP as a neighbour had a competent penis. And now I'm actually crying 😂😂😂

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/04/2020 18:38

Yeah and what people hear from us is: "take your hands off his throat please, don't hit her with a stick, share nicely please, right lunchtime, don't hit him please, share please, time for a walk, I said DON'T hit him, dinnertime please, no don't push her, right bedtime "

Bienentrinkwasser · 26/04/2020 18:48

Not heard, but my next door neighbours son baked extra (amazing) blondes for us today which I thought was really sweet.
