Dh turns thirty ten in lockdown! Ideas to make it special

My dh is lovely. We were meant to be taking the holiday of a lifetime to the Caribbean to celebrate his 40th birthday in May. I feel really sad that not only will we have to miss the holiday, we'll also miss seeing friends and family, and can't even book a table for a nice dinner or a hotel break.

Please help me think of ways to make the day special. Gift wise he is into gadgets and I usually buy him experiences like concert tickets or tickets for sporting events (obvs not an option currently).

My budget is up to £500.

Thirty ten? Are you French? 😂

I feel your disappointment, it's my 25th in mid-May. We wanted to take a road trip through Italy.

DP is just getting me a few bits and we're going to have a party when everything is normal. I'm used to delaying because I always had exams in my Bday.

If he games, the new PS5? If not what about an Electric bike?

Oh shit OP, you made the rookie mistake of not putting 'lighthearted' after your thirty ten joke and now you will get a roasting! Tut tut!

My friend has bought a shed and turned it into her own private pub. Do you have the outdoor space to get a shed and create something for him he would like? If not a shed then something less permanent and have a bit of a lad setup in the garden for the day?

@CaroleFuckinBaskin (great username btw!). I know...amateur mistake.

However, despite 60% of respondents taking me to task over my use of language, the other 40% have actually had some good suggestions, so overall I feel I'm winning at life

I'm turning 40 soon too and me and DH had hoped to get a weekend away on a nice city break just ourselves, which would have been a real treat as we have 2 young kids. I really don't want him to get me something just for the sake of it, so we're planning to get a nice restaurant meal delivered and do the city break next year hopefully.

@MrsChatterbox you're a genius.

We have a homemade bar in the garden. I could put up a dart board and get some craft beers in (maybe a keg? Or would it go off?). We could do a pub quiz- teens at home to flesh out the competition. To make it super authentic I could find some old football games or reels of Sky Sports News to have on in the background.

I got one with a stand - bit like the ones used at school in assembly. But if you YouTube the idea there's lots of ways to create a screen. I think there are even companies that rent you all the top gear if you have a good budget.

Why thank you. Sounds great 🙌🏻

Deffo gotta get some authentic pub snacks in too!
