I have never been 'academic' as such, never knew what I wanted to do and just have been going from job to job but since having my son I have found an interest in helping the vulnerable. I currently work in a dementia care home but I would love to work helping maybe addicts/homeless/domestic violence.
I want to do a BA hons Degree in social work at my local college but I have two small children 4 and my daughter is due in August 2020 so I was thinking of waiting until my daughter is 3 as she will then get 30 free hours childcare.
I am currently 26 so wont be going into uni until about 29 or maybe 28 if I go when she's 2. The thought fills me with dread am i too old for all this? Can I do it without being 'academic'? I just think while they are young why not learn something I'm interested in and enjoy.
Does anyone have any advise or are you in this type of work and how is it with running a family? I don't want a job that will make me miss out on a the precious family time, although I am aware a job like this will also be a big part of my life.
