Ooh - how did I not know about this (hair related)?

Middle aged woman here with naturally dark hair, now highlighted blonde for the last few years.

Failed to get highlights done before lockdown so started lockdown looking pretty grim - and then got grimmer with dark greasy looking roots streaked with grey.

Ooh - how did I not know about this (hair related)?

Perfect even lol x

DaydreamingDay · 25/04/2020 19:39

I use this as I have very dark hair that I dye every four weeks but the roots need topped up in between. I spray it on when my hair is still damp after shampooing. It is definitely a life saver. I just use an own brand one...ASDA or Tesco or something.

DaydreamingDay · 25/04/2020 19:40

Oh and yes your hair looks great OP.

So does it wash out every time you wash your hair? Think I might need something more permanent if so.

But Op - your hair looks great with it on.

LilQueenie · 25/04/2020 19:55

its been around for a few years. I was asked to test one when it first came out.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 25/04/2020 19:59

I use Colour Wow. It's a powder you brush on ( more environmentally friendly than a spray). The compact lasts a year according to the manufacturer and it's doing a great job of covering my roots.

hollieberrie · 25/04/2020 20:02

Oh wow OP, looks great!
I just use Batiste dry shampoo, the one for blondes that has a bit of colour in it but its a bit too orangey for my hair, will try this. Thanks!

sarahC40 · 25/04/2020 20:03

Thanks off to get some.

Aridane · 25/04/2020 20:12

@spongedog - yes, it washes out on washing (downside). However, it doesn’t transfer to hands, pillows etc and stays fixed until you wash your hair (upside)

I’ve been looking for similar to cover increasing grey hairs, but at £17 for my colour, I may as well buy a home colour.

Cherrysoup · 25/04/2020 20:23

Are there other sprays out there?

Aridane · 25/04/2020 20:25

(the small one is £10 - but then you’re stung with postage)

I just use the l'Oreal Magic Touch root spray - they still had quite a bit in Superdrug today, and it's on sale as well (£7 instead of £9 for the small bottle).

However, I do find that it comes off on my fingers every time I touch my hair - it never seems to dry fully. And anything on my hair/scalp like that makes it slightly itch, which means I'm touching it all the time.

I wish I could find a spray one that did actually dry. I find the powders and wand ones too fiddly, as I have a LOT of hair and find it hard to really get it all covered. The spray is great in terms of application, and the colour works well too. I just hate getting it on my fingers and under my nails so much.

HedgehogHotel · 25/04/2020 20:26

I'm using it to maintain my part line when I have to go into work, at the recommendation of my hairdresser, since it won't mess up my hair and washes out.

Aridane · 25/04/2020 20:26

I think there are plenty of others out there - well, some - but they were all sold out locally and online too (Boots & Superdrug)

So ‘ended up’ with Mane as they sell direct from their website (as well as via Amazon etc)

@Aridane thank you for the information! I think we are all learning new things during lock down!

Aridane · 25/04/2020 20:27

@Bimbleberries - this one does dry instantaneously and doesn’t transfer . Can’t compare with others as this is a first for me!

I've used a few different brands and found that spraying it on your hair before you dry it stops any transfer into your hands and it doesn't look so dull. It's a life saver! Oh that's good to know. I use it occasionally, in an "emergency" (I know it isn't a real emergency) but I do hate the transfer.

I've also found that it is better to go a shade lighter than I think I need. That just might be me though.

Bimbleberries · 25/04/2020 20:41

interesting, I'll try spraying it on damp hair next time and see. I don't dry with a hairdryer, but just airdry.

I've read lots of claims that the L'Oreal one doesn't transfer, but it still does on my hair, so whether that's something just to do with my hair or not, I don't know. If I finish this next bottle before lockdown is over, I might try that brand instead.

Freddiefox · 25/04/2020 20:42

You can use dry shampoo as well. It will lighten your roots

JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate · 25/04/2020 20:51

Ooh, looks great!

Merigoround · 25/04/2020 20:54

I use a root cover spray from Home bargains. Ive tried lots of them and so far this one annoys me less than the others did. I like the colour match on the one Im using(cannot remember the name and cant be faffed to go all the way upstairs to check)but hate the very dry feeling that they leave behind.
I am ready to give it a try on damp hair in a few weeks time when I'll have roots coming through again.

missmouse101 · 25/04/2020 20:55

Looks brilliant OP! Wow!

Healthyandhappy · 25/04/2020 21:26

I'm rocking dark blonde balayage havent had mine done since xmas but my appointment is beg of june so it better go ahead :) lol

Starksforthewin · 25/04/2020 21:30

Thanks OP, I’ve just ordered a bottle as well.

I’ve used WOW and the L’Oréal one as well, but like PPs I hate the itch and the transfer! I couldn’t understand why my nails were so dirty and then I made the connection! 🙄

My grey roots are so depressing, anything which helps keep them at bay during lockdown is worth it for my well being.
Good tip about applying before drying hair as well. Thank you.
