How do the drs check you for diabetes?

I'm self diagnosing here really. I've had trouble with my iron levels for years now. It went up last year again with 8 weeks of iron tablets.

Since Feb I've not been right. I've had weeks of exhaustion. I've been back on my iron tablets for ten weeks. I need my blood levels checking but due to Corona there's no way the dr will see me at the moment.

I've just come of the mini pill two weeks ago. I bled for a month on it and enough is enough. I've not been bleeding for just over a week now. Taking iron still most days but it's upsetting my tummy so I have slipped two days this week.

This morning I realised I felt hungover and shattered after eating cereal and coffee. I went back to bed. I've woken up still feeling off and weak. It got me thinking about how I feel. In This lockdown I've had no energy. I feel lethargic and weak. I'm tired alot. O never feel full of energy. I had a panic attack 2 months ago nearly. It was two days after starting the mini pill. This happened last time I had the combination pill. I've never had them any other time. I was needing a wee every twenty minutes after the panic attack for 5 hours and I was bursting. I get tingling in my fingers when I'm startled. I just feel rubbish overall.

Does this sound like diabetes is worth suggesting to the dr?

I had bloods tested 3 months ago and it was for vitamin d, thyroid iron etc. I can't remember if diabetes was one they checked. Do they tend to check that in a routine blood test? Thanks.

I have no idea whether the symptoms you describe relate to Diabetes. I had none of the obvious symptoms, certainly none anything like yours.

However the answer to how they test it, is via a blood test.

I don’t know whether this is done automatically with other tests. My type 2 was picked up when I had a liver function test. (our GP is a friend so knows I enjoy the odd drink, liver was fine).

If diabetes is suspected you are asked to drink a horrible syrupy concoction, then your blood is retested to see how your body deals with the sugar.

It may well be worth raising the possibility with your GP.
