What's on your fireplace (if you have one)?

Mine has two of my favourite photo's of the girls in frames (that probably won't match once I decorate), two tea light holders (definitely won't match once decorated), and a candle in the middle.

On the hearth are a selection of candles.

What's on yours? I'm after inspiration for something decorative for once I've finished decorating & we're eventually (hopefully) able to browse shops more freely :)

On the shelf at the top is a photo from our wedding, a small clear glass vase with some fake flowers, a figurine of a man and woman, some small candles with our initials on. Then the junk that should have other homes - some important letters stuffed behind the photo frame including my key worker letter, tweezers, folic acid tablets and a hairbrush. On the fire surround, two hurricane jars with white candles - partially used to make it look artsy (wanky). A small tea light holder. Junk that isn’t meant to live there - a mini bricks (tiny Lego) dinosaur, trivial pursuits, Lego (it’s all part of a set), a bottle opener, some change and beer lids that DH hasn’t put in the bin. Oh and some dog deorderising spray, which I think makes a wonderful decorative element in any home. Grin

2 photos in frames and two tealight holder thingies

Littleshortcake · 24/04/2020 22:37

Ours is huge. We have a print (A3 buffalo skull) a huge sand timer and plant. On the other side another plain print. It doesn't look cluttered.

The TV is above the mantle attached to the wall, then there is a cubby with the sound system and some boxes which hold adaptors- it's a gas fireplace and designed so heat won't cause issues. Then there is just a little wooden elephant on the mantlepiece and the remote.

ratspeaker · 24/04/2020 22:42

It's a bit crowded

From left to right...a pot with pens and scissors in, a scallop shell with bits and bobs in, a packet of cat treats, a painting of flowers in a frame, some miscellaneous post, a self thrown ceramic pot with a few notes and loose change in, my purse and a lamp....

RoomR0613 · 24/04/2020 22:44

A pair of nail scissors. Matches, Elastoplast, a pair of tweezers and half a pink birthday candle.

Probably not much for you to play with sorry.

Sheepareawesome · 24/04/2020 22:50

Two hifi speakers, 2 old coffee pots containing lots of pens and pencils, 4 photos of kids, a woven thing ds2 made, a thermometer, some fossilised dinosaur poo, a lip salve, clay pot ds1 made, superglue pot, some letters and lots of dust. Probably not helpful to you op...

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 24/04/2020 22:51

A boat, two ornaments, candlesticks either side of a clock, a jug of pussy willow, more ornaments, a book, a decorative lamp with vintage fabric. We put messy crap in other places but not on the fireplace Blush

Nat6999 · 24/04/2020 22:54

Clock, candles, candlesticks, wax melt burners, tealights.

NetballHoop · 24/04/2020 23:00

A bronze chinese bust
A slate clock
An art deco statue that has had a bump and is known as the wonky woman.

HowDoIGetOffTheBus · 24/04/2020 23:08

A clock, 2 wooden stars, a Celtic plaque, a wooden letter, a brass plant pot and a candle snuffer. I don't do minimalism.

LuluJakey1 · 24/04/2020 23:09

The one in the dining room (grey and white marble) has large arched mantle mirror over it, a plant on it, some candles, a black and white photo of DH and DS1 when he was born, a clock that was my grandparents wedding present from her parents and a box of matches behind the photo frame. There's a woodburner, a 1920s mirrored fire screen and a log basket on the hearth.
The one in the sitting room (black slate) has an art deco portrait of a great-aunt over it, a pair of art deco silver candlesticks, a silver clock and an Eastern European icon on it. It has an art deco embroidered firescreen and another large candlestick and some photos on the hearth- me and my mam, DH and his parents.
The one in what I call my sitting room and DH calls the snug is cast iron and has an18th century Irish family portrait over it and some photos of me and DH on it. A small green glass dish with bits of my jewellery and safety pins in it. and a collection of small bits of sea glass from various beaches- which I have always called boody for some reason (is it a north-east thing?) Nothing on the hearth.
The one in the family room has pictures painted by DS1 and DD on the sides and small candles along the top.

GaaaaarlicBread · 24/04/2020 23:14

This is from Christmas , but all year round minus the lights on there we have a couple of ornaments but that’s it . It seems bare compared to everyone else’s on here ! X

On the mantle piece there is a carriage clock, a vase of flowers and a couple of ornaments.

The hearth has 2 copper bed pans; a money box; candles; a stand containing things to clean the fire; and a remembrance poppy - similar to the ones which were in the Tower of London

Chesterfuckingdrorrs · 24/04/2020 23:17

2 faux totally unrealistic plastic plants, 4 pictures a super cute card from my nephew and a sign from our wedding.

I'm with the 'personal but not very glamorous' people here, I have 4 photos, 3 trophies, 2 candles and a canvas that ds painted for me for mothers today.
We'll be building shortly and when we do I'll try to keep the fireplace clean and just have a really dramatic mirror hanging above it

tabbycat985 · 25/04/2020 09:05

I used to have a lovely minimalist look with just a pretty candle holder then DH set up a huge sound bar which meant nothing else fitted but I've just noticed an old motorcycle battery has now found pride of place squeezed in beside it ffs🙄
I'm going to assume he got distracted on the way to the bin...

Theduchessstill · 25/04/2020 09:12

I have an orangey round candlestick at either end - not a pair. Next to those are tall glass pale-orangey candlesticks that are a pair. At the front are 3 tealight holders with sepia pictures of animals on them. In the centre is a massive framed print of a sunset over a sea. It's a gorgeous picture which used to hang behind the sofa as that was the largest wall space so the only place it would fit, but it meant I could never really see it. My genius idea to prop it on the mantle piece has changed my life and means I'm now looking at it all the time Grin. There is also a string of fairy lights running behind it all, some dust and some welded on candle wax...

TSSDNCOP · 25/04/2020 09:20

I have 3. This one is a shrine to Jo Malone.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 25/04/2020 09:23

A pile of Harry Potter ornaments that we started collecting, decided were shit and forgot to cancel Hmm. And its metal so has loads of random magnets on it Grin But the only fireplace with a mantelpiece is in DSs bedroom so I don't look at it.

lucysmam · 25/04/2020 10:10

Hmmmm, quite a mix of items in there then Grin and I've still no idea what to put on it when the room is done Grin

I try really hard to keep random clutter out of there (that lives on the dining table, in the kitchen, instead!) so there's actually very little 'stuff' in the living room.

I quite like the idea of a clock, and a pp had tall candlesticks so I think I might start there and see where I end up :)

Two candles, a cactus, family photo from a wedding, and a small piece of art by late FIL.
