Please help - Ryanair flight refund😟

Hi there, I was due to fly to London today & Ryanair cancelled my flights. I applied for a refund & thought it was in process as I got an email saying it would take a while to process due to a backlog...

However yesterday they sent me a flight voucher which I don't want to accept.
The email said if you don't want to accept this contact live chat which I did but there's no one there!! Also it said not to contact with direct flight issues so who can i contact then!!!

I went to apply for refund on the page but it said they can't accept as a refund application form has originally been submitted!
However now that they have sent a voucher it's case closed for them as I have no one to contact to say I don't want it & they won't let me reapply for the refund!
Please help😅

Martin Lewis at Money saving expert.com was all over this. I think they are trying to sort it - worth going to have a look on Moneysaving expert.

Thanks so much I'll do that, they have made it impossible for people to get their money back.
I applied 18 days ago for the refund & the voucher was sent yesterday ☹️

I’d just calm down a bit for now - the airlines are obviously experiencing high volumes of calls and chat requests - you can sort it eventually! Wouldn’t worry! I have issues with BA at the minute but no pony calling just now as can’t get through - il sort it when I can!

totallynotchanging · 24/04/2020 12:22

Totally out of order from Ryanair. Hope you can get it sorted soon. It will affect how a lot of people view them now, I'm sure. Not a good look for Ryanair.

Try doing a chargeback on your card or be patient and wait a couple of months

peppersneezes000 · 24/04/2020 12:44

I paid with my debit card so I don't know if that makes a difference.
I was on their "live chat" for 2 hours yesterday & was only given general answers. Eventually got an option to speak to support but no operator came on. It's ridiculous especially as they sent me an email a few weeks ago to say a refund would be processed & there was a backlog....

I'm in the exact same position. Finally got through to an operator after nearly an hour on hold (at 13p/minute) who said he would send an e mail confirming I was in the queue for a cash refund but that e mail never materialised. Then over 2 hours on live chat but like you say - no operator appeared. Am tearing my hair out.

Ineverdidmind · 25/04/2020 09:04

I'm in the same position, it's very frustrating. It's all very well people saying to be patient, but I am very very worried about running out of cash so I could do with every penny.

I paid on a credit card and my bank are a refusing a chargeback too, I'm so angry.

Ronnie27 · 25/04/2020 09:05

This has happened to me too but I haven’t received the voucher yet (when I requested a refund). Hmm

peppersneezes000 · 25/04/2020 12:59

It's a disgrace, tried ringing yesterday but I was on over an hour & no operator appeared. Don't want to risk a voucher as who knows what way the travel industry is going to be...

Me too - I submitted a message confirming I wanted a refund not a voucher, through their contact us page. IT was actually in their complaints bit, but hopefully they'll get it.

Any update for anyone?

newyearnoeu · 16/05/2020 10:44

Yeah same here except my flight was two months ago, applied for refund. Kept getting emails that it was being processed and then got a voucher. On their twitter said to DM them and you'd be given a refund - did so, nothing. Made a formal complaint and got....another email with the voucher details, and a comment saying if you don't use the voucher within twelve months then you can get a cash refund. I've gone via my credit card now, see what happens with that.

The stupid thing is they obviously want people to accept the vouchers, but who is going to do that at the moment with all the restrictions? Even if they said the voucher was up to five years, or you could have a refund for the exact amount you spent, or a voucher for 10% more perhaps people would have gone for them!

Why if they are such cheating bastards would I want to fly with them in future. OTOH easy jet refunded me straight away, fair play.

Can you apply for a chargeback with your card company?
