I'm making flapjacks - can I use this (obviously unopened) tin I found in my cupboard?

I’d use it. It’ll be fine

MogeatDog · 23/04/2020 17:10

Yes, I would - but I wouldn't tell my family - they'd freak.

Is it soup dragons recipe, perchance?

Growingboys · 23/04/2020 17:41

OK amazing thanks all.

I don't know where I found the recipe, it's written by me into my recipe book from 13 years ago when I had my second child and thought flapjacks helped breastfeeding. It's bloody good, and a neighbour gave me some oats so I thought I'd use them up this way as it's not really porridge weather!

I’m going to be using my out of date condensed milk to make flapjacks as well.
Much nicer and softer with condensed milk.

Soup dragons recipe?

Yellowbutterfly1 · 23/04/2020 18:41

Here’s mine, no idea where I got it from as it was quite a few years ago.

250g Oats
150g Butter
2 generous tablespoons of golden syrup
1/2 tin of condensed milk

Line a tin
Turn oven to 160 c
Melt butter
Add syrup, heat gently and while stirring.
Add condensed milk and mix
Boil for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and gradually add oats, folding in.
Don’t add too many oats or it will become dry.
Pour into a tin 2-3 cm
Bake for 15 minutes

@yellowbutterfly that's practically the same as mine, except mine says a third of a tin (think I did a bit more today).

It is the BEST ever - I spent months trying every recipe known to man til I landed on this one. Trouble is, I can't restrain myself so will end up eating way too many of them.

I used a jar of pasta sauce use by July 2019. We are still here. In fact I regularly use out of date stuff. Canned stuff is vacuum sealed so not exposed to the air etc
