Impact of COVID on maternity, cancer, mental health services

I work in Maternity and I’m gathering feedback on the impact of service changes to maternity, but there’ll be a select committee on three areas: Maternity, cancer and mental health.

If you have any feedback on your experiences with these areas of the NHS during the pandemic, please do share or feel free to PM me and I will include it with the feedback I’m getting locally.

Thanks everyone - stay safe :)

My CMHT have get in contact by phone, and the day hospital staff are doing things over the phone with me too. Whilst it's not as good as face to face, I'm still getting great support.

That’s good to hear Snowy. I think every trust is winging it and there are such inequalities in provisions across the country that and they’re trying to monitor / address this.

My DH is 2.5yrs post cancer treatment. He’s supposed to have a check up every 3 months which includes a (fairly intrusive) physical examination. His appointment was due in March. It’s been put back to next week and is now being done over the phone. He will report no recurrence of symptoms etc but as he never even had symptoms before the cancer was diagnosed, this is kind of pointless.

We have no idea when his next actual check up will be.

On one hand we are thankful he is 2.5yrs post treatment - if this was happening 3 years ago I can’t imagine how much worse it would be. On the other hand, these check ups are for a reason and it’s worrying to not have them.

Does maternity include postnatal care?

SinkGirl · 23/04/2020 22:30

Yes it absolutely does - antenatal, birth and postnatal, in and out of hospital, anything maternity related at all :)
