We where meant too move 3 weeks ago and we have been 'put on hold' so wait for weekly updates too see if we can move yet. It's getting me down and I'm just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation? Everyone I've spoken too tells me too get over it and stop complaining but it's really upsetting me .Explaining too the kids about why they aren't allowed back too school yet is bad enough but they where also so exited too move and it's upsetting them too its making me angry and emotional too be so powerless over it all.

Hi There Holz4188,

We're so sorry to hear you're stuck in limbo right now - such a frustrating time for you and your family.

We haven't got any advice specifically but we do sympathise and wanted to give your thread a bump...we bet there are other users out there in the same boat so we hope you can find some support here at Mumsnet.

@Holz4188 my friend is in exactly the same situation as you and it really sucks. She says it’s having something she worked long and hard for snatched away.

Wine for you

wombatsandaplant · 24/04/2020 21:45

I was all ready to move and complete on a house but all on hold now, sadly. Was my first home too, I was so excited. It sucks. I need to wait for the land registry to reopen so I can get the deeds sorted. Once that’s done I’m good to go. Hopefully soon.

cardibach · 24/04/2020 22:26

I’m in rented accommodation (it’s lovely, but even so...) with half my belongings in storage wiring on a sale amd purchase which should have completed. I feel your pain.

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 24/04/2020 22:55

Lockdown happened on our completion/moving week. I completed and got our keys but moved out 😞 so I know how you are feeling!

We have been to our new home once since we completed and it's so gutting! We're paying rent and mortgage at the moment too which isn't ideal but didn't fancy getting a mortgage holiday before we had even paid our first mortgage payment!

We are going to go check on the house tomorrow and using it as a reason to measure up for blinds/curtains so we can do some online shopping to make it seem a bit more "real".

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 23:24

double so you couldn’t move in after completion? I thought the rules said that was okay?

PickAChew · 24/04/2020 23:27

It's only OK if you can get people to move you.

NoTeaForMe · 24/04/2020 23:40

double I don’t understand why you haven’t moved if you had completed?

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 24/04/2020 23:45

We are in an upstairs flat so the plan was partners mum and dad would hire a van and the four of us would do it together on the 27th - 29th March and I start my new job full time the following week.

But then lockdown happened and we would be mixing households if they still came to help us move and my partner said he couldn't find any removals companies still operating.

We did look into hiring a van and just the two of us try and empty the flat one weekend but it's the big furniture sofa, chest of drawers, wardrobe etc I wouldn't be able to help moving because I'm really fucking weak😂😂😂

LolaSmiles · 24/04/2020 23:46

I have several friends in the same boat.
One of them is moving into a new build so who knows when they'll be able to move.

Brew or Wine for you depending on your drink of choice.

Lilac you can move within the rules, but you've got to find people working who are willing to move you given it's impossible to socially distance when doing removals.

catfeets · 24/04/2020 23:52

We're surrounded by boxes too. Little different as my partner has moved in with me, his home is sold and we're looking to then move from mine to another property.
We're so scared that the buyer will pull out last minute (has happened twice before). Can't get any word on whether the searches are still going ahead so we've rented a storage unit to put all his furniture etc into as my house is too small to take it.
We can rent a van to move the big stuff but no point until the buyers confirm they are going ahead. We're just going to take over the odd car load of stuff until then.
As no one is living at the property we're hoping the buyers take the opportunity to exchange quickly.

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 23:52

double I’d say moving was essential and therefore mixing households was essential. Paying rent and mortgage 😱

I stick to the rules for fear of the law but I can’t see the police arguing that one.

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 25/04/2020 00:04

@LilacTree1 we're going to start ordering bits and taking boxes over but we only have a small VW. We have an induction job in the new house so can order those and have them put away ready for when we move. Just haven't been going as it's not "essential".

I can't wait for tips to reopen too as that will create space in the flat as well 😂

I do realise how incredibly fortunate we are though. We have our health and a house which will still be stood once this is over whenever that will be!

Holz4188 · 25/04/2020 07:33

Thanks everyone it's actually comforting knowing I'm not the only one , makes it a bit more frustrating that I'm also going from a first floor flat too a house . The luxury of opening a back door and letting my kids play during his lockdown is one of the most upsetting things as we should of already been in there and as the weather is so nice too 😕
I did have someone tell me though that at least the bad memories of all of this will be left behind when we finally move and we can start a fresh and make happy new memories in our new house so trying too keep that in mind during all of this . I know there are alot worse things happening in the world right now and I think with everyone else going on as well as being worried about my kids (my eldest starts senior school in sept so she has alot of anxiety about that too) think it's just stressful for everyone atm, just hope they change the rules enough in the 7th may that we can all move at least and have something positive too focus on x

Us too OP! It's frustrating as we probably would have just squeezed it in before lockdown if our buyers solicitors had been a bit quicker but there you go!

We are moving into an empty house so could do according to government rules it if we could find any sort of reputable removal companies to move us. Ours seems fairly confident they will be operating again mid May so fingers crossed.

Our solicitor is advising due to the circumstances that we exchange and complete simultaneously on the same day to avoid any Covid related complications (Eg us or removals getting ill and having to self isolate meaning we can't complete) Seems like we'll be waiting for ages and then it will suddenly be go go go!

Good luck to everyone else in the same boat.

Bloodylegoeverywhere · 25/04/2020 08:15

We completed yesterday on a new build and are moving next week. If you ask on your local fb there may be one or two removal companies still working but only driving your items from one house to another rather than actually packing and lifting etc. Rubbish clearance people are also still working. So frustrating though. Hope you all get to move soon.

Bloodylegoeverywhere · 25/04/2020 08:16

We also had a week inbetween exchanging and completing but that was also due to being help to buy. I have heard lots of other moves are doing exchanging and completing on the same day.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/04/2020 08:18

double could you book someone and do a contactless move? Prepay over the phone (Or on completion). You put yourself at the end of the garden and leave the movers to it at both houses.

doodlejump1980 · 25/04/2020 08:25

We were just about to get the photos done to get ours put on the market. Everything’s in limbo. Plus we’re going to have to do THE BIG TIDY for the photos again 🤦🏻‍♀️

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 26/04/2020 18:59

We went to our house yesterday and after a talk and mentioning this thread, we've decided to get the wheels in motion to try and get out of our flat.

Boyfriend is in charge of arranging removals and I ordered our wheelie bins today🥳
