I've just tried to give myself blonde highlights using household bleach and tinfoil. What could possibly go wrong here?

Oh dear OP.
Buy a decent strength conditioning mask

naughtycat · 23/04/2020 04:14

OMG I have a feeling this won't work out well! But I feel compelled to do it😂 I'm not doing it all over....just a few select strands! I think I may be crying tomorrow 😂

Why!? Your hair could fall out or break off?

We have to keep ourselves entertained some how during the bloody never ending virus ongoing awfulness. So why not chuck some household bleach on my head 😁 I will try and post a picture....I'm not sure how to, but I will give it a go....

Ummmm here..... I wanna do some more but probably should stop now 😳

I'd be more worried about the black squiggles that have developed over your face 😀

naughtycat · 23/04/2020 04:38

@msmith501

😂🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Having just removed one of the tin fools to check on the progress, I am very disappointed ☹️ hasn't even gone the slightest bit blonde. What a disappointment. If I'm putting the effort in to entertain myself during lockdown, I would certainly expect to see some results 🥵

Sparklfairy · 23/04/2020 05:02

@msmith501 Grin

@naughtycat how long did you leave it on for? Last time I home bleached my hair (NOT with household bleach!), it said you could leave it on for up to 90 mins.

Disclaimer: I'm not advocating what OP has done or encouraging it, but it's done now, she may as well try and get a result out of it.

You really will need to have multiple deep conditioning treatments on it though to try and restore the poor hair or just shave your head

happinessischocolate · 23/04/2020 05:07

Where are you OP ? It's 5am here, why are you bored at 5am 😂

naughtycat · 23/04/2020 05:37

@happinessischocolate

I'm in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England.

Time and days no longer have meaning in this lockdown. Every day is like the day before. Every hour is like the hour before!

That sounds a bit depressing, but it's not. I'm living in a dreamy bubble ❤️❤️❤️

OP posts:
naughtycat · 23/04/2020 05:41

@Sparklfairy

It was on for 30 minutes when I had a look and it was still stubbornly brunette. I'm going to go to sleep soon. I will leave it on. If anything 'happens' I will post a picture in the morning (or probably afternoon now, after staying awake all night)

OP posts:
Sparklfairy · 23/04/2020 06:03

OMG you can't leave it and go to sleep your hair will fall out!!

naughtycat · 23/04/2020 06:09

@Sparklfairy I thought it would be okay! Okay I will remove the foils now.

I really wish I had a pet cat. I would be so happy

OP posts:
naughtycat · 23/04/2020 06:20

@Sparklfairy

Ive removed the tin foil (which was actually quite difficult) washed and conditioned. Had a look in the mirror.....absolutely nothing has happened!!!

Moral of the story....don't try and get blonde highlights with household bleach during lockdown ...it really will not work 😁

catinb0oots · 23/04/2020 06:22

Household bleach won't lighten your hair GrinGrinGrin You need peroxide and bleach powder you numpton Grin

naughtycat · 23/04/2020 06:23

@catinb0oots

Oh damn I wish you had joined this thread 2 hours ago. Now I just have dry hair 🤷🏻‍♀️😁

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/04/2020 06:39

On the plus side, you can confirm your hair does not have Covid Wink. You need a box bleach imo. You could try a non bleach blonde dye. But you do risk going orange due to hair pigmentation. bellatory.com/hair/How-to-dye-your-hair-blonde-without-bleach I’m not a hairdresser btw so my knowledge is fairly limited. I just know from experience of colours on my dhs hair.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/04/2020 06:42

Oh and don’t use sun in if it still exists or any equivalent still on the market. It is very drying.

overnightangel · 23/04/2020 06:46

Never happened

userxx · 23/04/2020 06:48

🤣🤣🤣🤣 brilliant.

kleew1 · 23/04/2020 06:57

This is so funny. Fake news maybe haha?

lokoho · 23/04/2020 06:59

Loo bleach is chlorine - sodium hypochloride. Hair bleach is peroxide. You'd have better luck with Vanish!

naughtycat · 23/04/2020 06:59

@Mummyoflittledragon

Oh god I do remember 'Sun In' from school in the 90s. Household bleach is actually nicer than sun in.

OP posts:
lokoho · 23/04/2020 07:00

...but don't use Vanish. :P
