Help Me Name This Business

OldWomanThyme · 22/04/2020 21:35

Hi, my son in law has decided to branch out on his own and start his own little business.
We were all trying to think of a name for the business (all on face time I should add) and I said I'd put it to the mumsnetters.
He is a gas engineer so will be fitting and repairing boilers, everything gas heating related and also plumbing.
Hes not overly keen on using his name or initials.
Any ideas oh wise ones?

Thankyou all, He definitely wont be using a "funny" name but it's so hard to find a sensible name that hasn't been used. Its looking more likely that he will have to use his name, or part of his name. His surname just doesn't flow very well.

Maybe he could Use his own initials? Then a tag line of a word that starts with those initials?

E.g. “E.R.S. PLUMBING” Expertise. Reliability. Safety (as someone suggested on here)

Tdaadfb100 I like that idea, I will send him some of these ideas later. Thankyou

Gastech is good...to be honest, the area name isn't that important really. But if he can...and I know budget might be limited, he should get someone to help him build his website and social media.

Tell him to look on People Per Hour or Fiverr for that...some people are good and affordable.

Thanks fortunesfave
I will tell him about those sites.
He looked and there is already a 'gastech' not far from him😏

I think for independent contractors, trust and honesty is so important and I agree with PPs that a fancy name can detract from that.

He will be trading on his integrity and expertise as an individual so I'd advise him to just use his name. People want to know who they're getting and a company name suggests they'll get one of many interchangeable people.

The tradespeople I tend to recommend to others and use again and again are the ones where I just have their mobile number saved in my phone having found them via google.

I think a simple website with his contact details, area and prices is more important than a brand name.

I agree with PP. The most important aspects are a business plan, a website and social media presence. Is he able to manage a website? Does he fully grasp social media for business?

If not, tell him to get on a site called Moz. It's invaluable...it has some free courses and a lot of informative articles.

Honestly even if he adapts the name a bit, a name is so much better. Anything slightly punny or clever-clever would put me right off a plumber. Anything anonymous is just not so trustworthy. Area name is good depending on the area, name is better.

Does he have a middle initial he could use which is less amusing? If not, make one up and use his own surname.

What are your thoughts about "Heatwell"?

G & P Services? (Gas & Plumbing)
