Is this to add gravitas and weight?

I really don't see the need for his presence, other than to maybe bolster Raab and 'big things up'.

Sorry, I put this in Chat instead of Coronavirus.

The military are helping deliver goods, building the new Nightingale hospitals, working in hospitals and distribution centres. They are playing a vital role in trying to control this terrible illness. Why dont you think they dont deserve to be involved in the daily briefings.

Hirsutefirs · 22/04/2020 17:28

He’s just trying to blend in.

copycopypaste · 22/04/2020 17:29

But does he really need to be dressed in camouflage? Why can't he wear a shirt and tie?

It's not a case of not deserving to be there but I just think it's a political ploy to bolster the politician's presence. We all know what a good job the army is doing.

Oddly his face matches the wood behind him,but the camo makes him very conspicuous.

His speech was shit though - talking about in which office forces people are stationed (so?) and bigging up that one named chap.

The whole thing is shit now. It started off as informative and now it's just poorly disguised propaganda.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/04/2020 17:33

But does he really need to be dressed in camouflage? Why can't he wear a shirt and tie?

Because that's what the army wear on a day to day basis.

Westfacing · 22/04/2020 17:34

I know it's serious now! 😀

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 17:45

DH is military and rolled his eyes. He’s had enough of his job I think.

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 17:53

And the correct term is MTP.

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 22/04/2020 17:55

@BirdieFriendReturns feels. This last 6 weeks has tipped me over the edge.

TitianaTitsling · 22/04/2020 17:57

@BirdieFriendReturns DH does not like MTP, harks back constantly to the old 95 kit and pre that! Grin

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 18:02

DH has been WFH and today he said he hates his “fucking pointless job looking spreadsheets all day.” He is well and truly sick of the military and so am I!

Many (most?) jobs in the armed forces are working in offices looking at computers all day. DH last had a sea draft 8 years ago. Counting down the days to his pension. He certainly doesn’t feel any pride like General whatever his name was said.

OhClover · 22/04/2020 18:05

Haven’t nursing representatives come in uniform as well?

Westfacing · 22/04/2020 18:18

Yes and the Chief Nursing Officer looked rather silly in her scrubs - I bet it's a long time since she was bedside!

OP posts:
HappyHammy · 22/04/2020 18:59

Does it really matter what they wear at this time of great sadness and uncertainty

thegcatsmother · 22/04/2020 19:03

Can't your dh volunteer for a sea draft then Birdie?

HappyHammy · 22/04/2020 19:18

Maybe military personnel who are bored with their usual jobs might find something more rewarding in helping out with the covid pandemic.

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 22/04/2020 19:19

@HappyHammy you make two very big and naive assumptions there, the first that military personnel aren't already helping. The second that military personnel can just do as they please.

HappyHammy · 22/04/2020 19:26

Sorry but where have I assumed the military personnel arent already helping and when I was in the Army we often volunteered or were asked to help out in other areas when needed

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 22/04/2020 19:28

I suspect times have changed.

MitziK · 22/04/2020 19:35

Technically, he's wearing Professional Attire. Like the weasels politicians in their shiny suits.

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 19:58

thegcatsmother - no, there is only one sea-going job at his rank and in his branch. The jobs are almost all desk based.

And no, he’s in this role and has to stay there for the two year posting period unless he gets promoted.

He’s just counting down the days until he can leave and get his pension.
