Maths help....DD has a question she knows the answer but

Mathswatch isn't accepting the answer. Question is

Find the values of y.

y2=169

She knows its 13. What else should she write?

y2 should read y squared.

Well the answer is -13 and 13. As it asks for the values (plural) it most likely won't accept a partial answer.

y2 = 169

y = sqrt 169

y = +/- 13

(sqrt = square root sign)

It's because she has entered only one of the two possible answers.

If you nudge her that she's only given half the answer, might she be able to do it?

Second nudge would be to revise the multiplication of negative numbers
