Advice needed to start walking more...

I’ve had sore joints due to pre menopause & I hurt my knee a couple of years ago so have been building up strengthening exercises recently. I don’t really walk anywhere though as it’s not particularly comfortable as my knees get stiff. However through regular cycling ( I was swimming pre lockdown) and daily HIT routines I’m feeling more confident to go out for a walk. But I’ve just come back from 15 minutes 1500 steps & an exhausted and my knees are stiff. What’s the best way to built up stamina so I can comfortably walk for an hour or more?

I take a multivit with minerals, extra Vit D with calcium, and a B complex. The B complex was mainly to get some B12, which many people can be deficient in without realising.

I'm also in a similar position to OP. 8lbs lost, and 5 stone to go, at least. I'm finding any excuse to go out for walks, and will be off in a few minutes. I just shove my earphones in and plan my to do list while walking.

I get dodgy knees too. Once I've shifted a couple of stone, I'm planning to start the c25k programme. I just want a bit of weight off my knees first.

If my knees ache after walking, I do a few gentle stretches and then put my feet up. I have found that putting a cushion directly under my knees, so the legs are slightly bent has helped in reducing the ache somewhat.

I forgot about trainers. I buy mens trainers, and mens shoes are definitely cut wider, and I have wide feet that don't fit into most women's shoes.

Magnesium is good for joint aches, either take a supplement or add magnesium flakes/ salt to your baths.
