Help creating website...

Sorry I'm not in the right section - I'm not even sure there is a section for this?

I would like to create a basic website; where the main feature is a selection of PDF documents which people can download (free).

I'm totally new to building a website, so have been looking at sites such as Wix and Webnode which do all the complicated bits for you. Unfortunately the templates seem to be geared to either online shops, or information about services etc.

I don't need to take any payments (and therefore don't want to pay for the website initially), but I quite like the idea of it looking a bit like a shop - e.g. you can look at categories of files to select the one most relevant to you, search and filter etc. All downloads will be free to users so no payment or shipping sections required.

Anyone got any ideas how to get started? I'm pretty sure that what I want is quite basic; but it just doesn't seem to mesh with the templates I've found so far.

Advice appreciated. I hope I've made sense.

I would suggest that you explore WordPress themes for libraries, bookstores and academic organisations. Those themes have the catalogue style functionality you are looking for.
There are some comparison review blogs if you Google 'Wordpress theme for school/college/academic/publisher' etc
Example review colorlib.com/wp/wordpress-themes-for-bookstores-libraries/

You are correct that most of the drag and drop builder sites are more commercial/e-commerce focused.

Sorry, link fail. Trying again.

Website I'm trying to link to is Colorlib and the page is 'themes for bookstores-libraries'
It compares around 10 templates. A good place to start.

Great, thank you. I'll go and have a look.
