HELP- Just found some kittens!

ISpeakJive · 20/04/2020 09:45

Posting here for advice. I live across a park and just found two kittens under a tree.
Their eyes have just opened and they seem well fed. However, I haven’t seen their mum yet. I only spotted them half an hour ago so may be too early but just in case I’m dealing with abandoned kittens what would I need to do?
A few things to note. I’m in a warm Mediterranean country and it’s a Bank Holiday over here so my resources are pretty limited.
Thank you.

I was only asking to see if I can help with the language and any insider knowledge Smile - assuming the mum doesn't come back. From experience though if the mum was planning on coming back she would have probably chosen a safer, less visible spot.

I know what you mean about locals not giving a toss about cats, they often need someone to have a go in their own language to get their bums into gear.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/04/2020 15:44

They are very tiny. Odd place for a mother cat to leave her kittens, I strongly suspect they have been dumped there by a person. They need taking and and feeding.

peppermintcapsules · 20/04/2020 15:44

Hope the mum comes back.

Ooh what are you going to call your new kittens op 😀

midsummabreak · 20/04/2020 15:48

Are they ? 4 weeks old. They will dehydrate, you need to get them a drink. Can you take them home and on way stop at pharmacy and get a sachst of baby formula, and a bottle and a dropper.
Formula will need to be diluted more than humans have it . They may need to have drops at first until learn to take milk from teat.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/04/2020 15:50

Six hours seems a long time to me. I mean you wouldn’t not feed your baby for six hours would you? And kittens are so much tinier so presumably need feeding more often.

Have they been purposefully left somewhere they are likely to be found by a passerby?

shirleyschmidt · 20/04/2020 15:52

Oh my gosh they are adorable!! It's awful
To think they might have been dumped 😞

loopylindazdaughter · 20/04/2020 15:52

Please please take them this in :(

midsummabreak · 20/04/2020 15:53

Are pet shops open where you can buy feline kitten formula for abandoned kittens

midsummabreak · 20/04/2020 15:57

Could you buy ?tiinned tuna for kittens from supermarket with juice, water drops into mouth?

ofwarren · 20/04/2020 16:01

Oh they are still so young!
They are going to need some milk soon the poor things

Shockers · 20/04/2020 16:01

Goat’s milk is gentler than cow’s milk.

Dieu · 20/04/2020 16:12

My heart is breaking here. I abhor countries with no respect for animals. It's not their fault if they're left to breed indiscriminately, and it's a shit and stressful existence for the mothers in particular, trying to protect their young.
I think some intervention will be needed soon OP, and please keep us posted ThanksStar

Costacoffeeplease · 20/04/2020 16:13

I think they’ve been dumped and will need hand rearing. Where I live we often have dumped kittens and puppies and I’ve bottle fed lots over the last almost 20 years. If you do take them on they will also need help toileting at that age. Let me know if you need any advice

Veterinari · 20/04/2020 16:21

That look dumped - that's not a cat den site.

They will likely be able to eat kitten food - so I'd start them on that rather than mess around with milk

As to what to do with them - I wouldn't assume that rescue = better if they end up caged for life or fighting for limited resources.. They may have a nicer life living in the park with supplementary feeding whilst young and if you can get them vaccinated and neutered they'll likely do fine.

A lot will depend on their response to humans. Are they friendly or feral OP?

Dieu · 20/04/2020 16:22

What excuse could we possibly have in this country for dumping baby animals (assuming the previous poster is British). It's a whole new level of heartlessness.
PP, I would give you a medal! Smile

LassoOfTruth · 20/04/2020 16:23

Oh! So cute, poor wee things. I can't offer any advice OP but you sound so kind and I'm sure you'll do your best for them.

Veterinari · 20/04/2020 16:25

Also, they'll need deworming

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/04/2020 16:31

What wee toots. I hope they are okay and the mum comes back.

Oldestchild90s · 20/04/2020 16:34

I think they have been dumped. Please make sure someone takes good care of them 😭

Oldestchild90s · 20/04/2020 16:37

@IspeakJive am i allowed to ask what area you're in? Can anyone on here maybe help? Can i help if it's close enough to me?

IHaveAMagicBean · 20/04/2020 17:08

If you ‘rescue’ them, you need to empty their bladders otherwise they will suffer.
Gentle stroking with a cotton ball will stimulate them to wee.

Veterinari · 20/04/2020 17:15

They look around 5-6 weeks - they'll be old enough to toilet by themselves and to eat solid food

ISpeakJive · 20/04/2020 17:32

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for all the advice and support!

Well, mum hasn’t returned so I assumed they had been dumped. I mentioned the situation to one of my friends and a close relative of theirs volunteers in a cat rescue centre!
She has been told the situation and will be coming to get them in the next half an hour to take them home as she has everything she needs there.

I am so relieved.

Thanks all.
