Uxbridge reviews

Hi, my partner and I are looking to move to the Uxbridge area as he's starting a new job soon but we can't explore the areas at the moment due to the lockdown so I'm hoping someone may be able to help advise.

Uxbridge looks like the best location as I work out of London and he needs to commute to a job on the met line, but is the area nice? Does it feel safe walking around in the evenings etc.?

We also have a dog so it would be helpful to know if there are any nice walks around or better areas nearby?

It depends....

The shopping centre is quite nice.

It does seem to be a bit of a dumping ground for let's say undesirables. My mum used to live in Hillingdon which is nearby and I was so glad when she moved out.

Maybe google online for reviews if no on else here replies.

DS lives in Ruislip quite close to the golf course. It's a really nice area and I'd be very happy to live there. He goes to Uxbridge quite a bit I think for shopping and socialising as there's more to do there.

Uxbridge has good and bad parts. The town centre is a bit miserable.

If you like nice walks etc you might like slightly further out. Such as the chalfonts or gerrards cross or a bit closer to Uxbridge, Iver.

Maybe Watford?

Ickenham is nice and some bits of Hillingdon.
I used to walk home alone all the time from a night out In Uxbridge although I’ve moved out of the area a few years ago.
Gerrards Cross is lovely but expensive.
Iver isn’t that great nor is Langley.
Parts of Denham are ok and Harefield.

Boris Johnson is the MP?
I'd probably look more at Buckinghamshire, lots of nice places, and a pretty easy commute.

Ickenham, Ruislip, Eastcote (and Pinner and Northwood on the other branch on the met line) are much nicer but it depends on budget. Uxbridge town centre is ok for shopping, can be a bit rough at night, the residential bits are a mixed bag but can be a bit of a hike from the station.

I don’t live there anymore (but go back sometimes) so my knowledge is a bit out of date.

For dog walks, Ruislip lido and mad bess woods are lovely. Lots of green space between Ruislip and Northwood. Further out of London, Black Park is lovely. Denham village is a fancy place to walk round with nice pubs etc.

Whereabouts on the met line will your partner be? Do you need to know about schools?

We lived there 3 years ago and we loved it. We were based at the old air base near Jack’s. There has been a lot of new property developed in that area which might be worth checking out. Good for shopping eating out etc.
Some nice walks locally but a few nice parks/woodland areas a short drive away such as Langley and Black Park close to Pinewood Studios. Very popular with dog walkers.
Ickenham had a lovely feel to it as did Ruislip and Northwood but they are a little more pricey.
