Any sudoku whizzes around?

Can anyone who can do sudoku tell me what to do next on this? I know a few ways of solving them but have ran out of options and am stuck. It might be something obvious that I'm missing or something I don't know at all... All the rows/columns/boxes seem to be sets of 2/3/4/5

And while you're at it, can you tell me how you go about solving sudoku if you do hard or really hard ones? I usually fill in what I can with cross hatching then go straight to working out all the options for the remaining cells and eliminating from there. But I'm sure there must be a better method

Any good places for explaining other techniques? I watched a fair bit of the sudoku guy but ended up wanting to punch him in the face

I picked a number and followed it through...so if this square is 2 then that must be....and pretty quickly it fell to bits so the first number must not be 2 ?

Person above is correct. The box left corner of the first square is 8.

This method isn't great for exactly this reason. Try going number by number e.g. Try and put one in every box, then two and so on

Woops meant isn't 8 but see you've got it!

I've never tried that method - can't keep that many thoughts in my head at one time I always assumed there were more 'proper' ways!

I thought mumsnet would be full of sudoku experts. Anyone else?!
