I want to send my friend a book for her bday but don't want to go to the post office. Will it arrive if I put it an an envelope and stick a load of first class stamps on it? If so how many stamps do I need? 3..4..? Google not being helpful

You can pay the postage online if you have a printer? If not, it would let you work out how much postage you would need and therefore how many first class stamps add up to that. parcel.royalmail.com/orders/quick-delivery/

I dont have a printer. But does it work like that? You just add up the cost?

Yes, you can just add it up, and stick enough first class stamps on.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 19/04/2020 15:15

Yes you can put stamps on it, it will get delivered

I’m not sure how many you’d need though

Blueuggboots · 19/04/2020 15:25

Weigh it. Then check online how much it's going to cost abc stick on enough first class stamps to cover the cost.

Runnerduck34 · 19/04/2020 16:26

Go to royal mail website, they have a postage calculator, you need to weigh and measure the parcel, you can then work out how many stamps you need to cover the postage

Yes. You can use multiples of 1st and 2nd class stamps to make up any amount as long as it is UK post only. You can't do this for post going abroad, because they don't know the value of the stamp.

So weigh your package on your normal kitchen scale, work out how many you need, and check whether it counts as a large letter or a packet.

Actually, i DO use my 1st class stamps when I post to the US. Just sayin'
How many? Just shove a load onGrin

Caramel78 · 19/04/2020 17:05

Weigh the book and work out the correct postage cost for the service you want
www.royalmail.com/sites/royalmail.com/files/2020-03/royal-mail-our-prices-valid-from-23-march-2020.pdf
e.g. small parcel up to 1kg = £3.10
but may be less if it's thin enough to go as large letter.

Check the current price of a 1st class stamp = 70p
Divide postage by stamp price 3.10/0.7=4.4
Round up to whole stamps = 5
