If I am not for me, then who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when? (Attributed to Hillel, a Jewish thinker just under 2000 years ago. Profound and covers most bases.)

One from my father, which I try and fail to follow, to help with procrastination, 'If it were done, twere well it were done quickly.'

xxyzz · 19/04/2020 03:59

Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it.

Reginabambina · 19/04/2020 04:02

I have two:

You fail when you fail to try. And

Privilege gives rise to obligations.

FiveShelties · 19/04/2020 04:10

Kia kaha

Means 'stay strong' in Maori.

totallydevoidofideas · 19/04/2020 04:24

It could be worse.

StarlightLady · 19/04/2020 04:29

Passion, discretion, privacy!

We1shBird · 19/04/2020 04:43

Perfection is the enemy of progress.

dimotikopp · 19/04/2020 06:52

Mine is not my circus, not my monkeys, and husbands is expect the best, prepare for the worst!

Runkatierun · 19/04/2020 07:13

I've two

"Always be the hardest worker in the room" it's actually the Rocks motto but I stole it years ago

"Let them wonder"

whojamaflip · 19/04/2020 07:20

Mine is - the only person responsible for your happiness is you.......

And one I heard on here - don't borrow trouble ahead of time

Bluesheep8 · 19/04/2020 07:29

You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

Don't try to tie my laces til you've walked a mile in my shoes.

ohmyword20 · 19/04/2020 07:50

"There, but for the grace of God, go I "

I'm not religious but it keeps me in check.

NuclearWinter · 19/04/2020 07:59

Don't be the person your dog thinks you are. He thinks you're an arsehole.

drumandthebass · 19/04/2020 08:08

A pessimist is never disappointed

PippaPegg · 19/04/2020 08:20

Chill (my no 1 parenting rule, nothing good comes of forgetting it)

Be so good they can't ignore you (from a book forgot the title.. because I'm not very likeable, this helps me get a grip when I feel like loud obnoxious people are getting all the airtime)

It could be worse (turn that catastrophising anxiety brain and worry into fuel for positivity)

Riverviews · 19/04/2020 08:24

If you really want to do something, do it. It's better to have regrets than to keep on wondering what would have happened.

AwkwardSquad · 19/04/2020 08:37

Just keep putting one foot after the other (helped me through some severe depressive episodes)

Don’t be a dick

Fuck this shit

(Not particularly erudite or witty, but pithy at least!)

TheyAllFloat · 19/04/2020 08:58

Family motto: "As our dear little old Ma would say, 'fuck it'!"

filka · 19/04/2020 09:05

Never write anything to anyone that you wouldn't want to see on the front page of a newspaper

These days, especially on social media.

ProfessorPollington · 19/04/2020 09:14

The one that changed my entire perspective on worrying about everything: Never judge your life by what it looks like at 3 in the morning. It's completely right and when I started worrying I would simply think it will look better tomorrow, roll over and go to sleep.

Also - failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

theclangersbigplan · 19/04/2020 09:25

Everything's a phase

Remember when you wanted what you have now

^
I love that. What a good quote.

RubySunset · 19/04/2020 12:05

Take whatever you want, and pay for it.

obviouslymarvellous · 19/04/2020 12:11

Treat others as you want to be treated, and also this too shall pass x
