What next after Malory Towers?

DC (12 & 8) have loved watching Malory Towers with me. Any suggestions of another good children’s series that won’t be annoying/boring for me? On either IPlayer / Netflix / Amazon Prime (can’t be arsed to pay for anything though). Thanks!

Hetty Feather
Harriet's Army
(both are cbbc programmes)

I'm wondering the same thing. We're working our way through The Worst Witch at the moment, but it just hasn't been done as well as Malory Towers.

'Anne with an E' on Netflix - Anne of Green Gables adaptation.

I asked the same Q a couple of weeks ago.
Anne with an E seemed to be the general consensus.

InglouriousBasterd · 16/04/2020 00:34

I remember your thread Bike! I can’t get into Anne with an E - we’re going to start the Durrells, also Darling Buds.

A Series of Unfortunate events? On Netflix.
It may be a bit old for the 8yr old if they scare easily though.

HugeAckmansWife · 16/04/2020 07:29

Merlin.

BikeRunSki · 16/04/2020 07:32

@InglouriousBasterd, we’re not really getting it with “Anne” either. Tried Outnumbered, but DD doesn’t get it. “The Middle” (Prime) is good, but it’s just not the same cuddly vibe as MT.

Ginfordinner · 16/04/2020 07:52

I loved The Durrells. I also enjoyed The Darling Buds of May when it came out. The Durrells is miles better IMO. Having read all the Lemony Snicket books to DD I tried watching the series, but didn't enjoy it at all.

VashtaNerada · 16/04/2020 07:56

Thanks everyone. They’ve both seen (& loved) unfortunate events. I’ll check out the others today!

Where can I get The Durrells? We watched the early ones when they were on live but would love to start again/catch up. Also feeling bereft now we’ve finished MT!

Bimbleberries · 16/04/2020 09:06

anyone know if Malory Towers has been renewed for another series/season?

Ginfordinner · 16/04/2020 09:15

I hope they do. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it.

AlpacaGoodnight · 16/04/2020 10:25

@AliceLutherNeeMorgan The Durrells is now on Netflix but not sure if it is just the early ones

AlpacaGoodnight · 16/04/2020 10:28

My 7 year old bookworm daughter LOVES the Malory Towers books but hasn't got into the programme. She does like the Worst Witch programmes but hasn't read the books so I think the characters weren't already 'set' in her head. I'm on the hunt for similar programmes so will try some of the suggestions here Smile

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 16/04/2020 10:34

@AlpacaGoodnight thanks for that - I’ll be happy to rewatch the early ones for now Smile

InglouriousBasterd · 16/04/2020 10:38

I know the Durrells is on Netflix but if not check ITV hub @AliceLutherNeeMorgan

Darling buds is so gentle and simple but there just aren’t enough episodes!
