Hi, I got a call from nursery today to say they've been told they maybe able to open in a couple of weeks. They wanted to check I still wanted his place and confirming days of the week etc.

I'm assuming they're sorting out staff rotas

Its quite early on still in the lockdown so I wondered if you will send your nursery aged children straight away?
Wait a few more weeks?

Covid 19 wont be gone even if I wait till September. But I'm a bit scared of making the wrong decision.

Me and DH are both teachers so they will go back to nursery full time as soon as we are all open

Desmondo2016 · 15/04/2020 17:06

My child has been going throughout as we are both key workers, albeit she has been going half as much and is generally one of only two or three children there. But yes, as soon as she can go back for her full sessions then I will be sending her.

been told they maybe able to open in a couple of weeks. I’d want to know by who? The government have closed all schools. They need to be very carefully if they open their doors too early

DDs nursery emailed to say they’re hoping to be able to reopen in June. But I hope yours is right, it would be great if it was just a couple of weeks. DD will be going back asap when they open.

Wifeofbikerviking · 15/04/2020 17:34

@Freddiefox I've no idea as wasnt really expecting the call so early, haven't processed it. I should've asked really. I reckon if its from the government lots more mumsnetters will post too hopefully.

Thank you everyone replying. I wont be able to start what I do anyway yet as is holiday home cleaning. And could take him with me, it's only 6hrs a week. If you didn't need the childcare to work would you still send?

Hes unsettled and misses interacting with children for sure. I'm leaning towards sending but husband thinks it's too risky so I'm second guessing myself now

I would be very wary of sending mine back into nursery in a couple of weeks, but our wfh arrangements are going fine so I have the luxury of some choice. I will be very surprised if any are allowed to open before June anyway.

The one where I work. Is open for ket workers with a skelitan staff.

Megan2018 · 15/04/2020 17:44

I wouldn’t if you don’t need the childcare for work.

I go back to work 1 Sept after mat leave so will be hoping they are open them-but I’m full time and main earner in our household. If I didn’t need it she wouldn’t be going for as long as possible.

The virus isn’t going to go away, so unless you plan to keep your child off school / nursery until there is a vaccine I don’t see why wait to send back. My children will go back to school as soon as they are allowed

Obviously assuming no health conditions

OpticVA · 15/04/2020 21:33

I’ll be sending my DD back as soon as they reopen but only because I have to for me to be able to work and she’s only there 2 days anyway. I haven’t heard anything off ours regarding when they might reopen as of yet. I would be surprised if as soon as a couple of weeks though, I’m anticipating early June.

rhowton · 16/04/2020 11:21

I actually can't wait for them to be back at nursery. I'm somewhat losing my mind 😂
