Does anyone know anything about graphic/drawing tablets?

My daughter loves to draw. She says she wants to be a graphic designer.

She's always drawing things on her old iPhone on apps.

Shes said she would love a drawing tablet for her birthday.

I honestly don't even know what one is or where to start. Is it just a normal tablet with apps or a specific table just for drawing.

I can't afford an ipad or anything like that.

She will be 12 on her birthday.

Any information or recommendations would be appreciated :)

Have a look at the Wacom Intuos - definitely start with a basic model. Argos and Amazon have them.

There are tablets that most people call tablets like ipads and equivalents. These have some drawing apps and pens you can buy, like apple pen and procreate app.

Then there are devices called graphics tablets that plug into computers. You either draw on the screen if it's a dead fancy one or you draw on it using something like photoshop.

There are also laptops which are kind of hybrids that allow you to draw on the screen.

If you do have a pc already then this article might help tabletunderbudget.com/best-drawing-tablets/

I second wacom intuos, I think they come in 3 sizes, my partner has what I think is the medium comic/cartoon (it's marketed as being for more stylised art but I can't remember what it said exactly) basically plug and play into a desktop or laptop, might have to Google 'wacom drivers' if it doesn't plug in and work straight away for you, but it's a light thin tablet that you can use as a touch pad aswell, super easy to draw with

Not to be nosy, but how much money roughly are you looking to spend?

HarriboEgg · 15/04/2020 14:53

Maybe 300? At most

My dd's got a Huion drawing tablet. It's a bit like a giant touch pad on a laptop with a pen. Hers plugs into a laptop and I don't know if they work with tablets.

These tablets work by plugging into a laptop or pc and then you draw on the tablet. It comes up on the laptop and uses software so you can edit and so on.

You can get one for much less than £300 but need a laptop to use it. The laptop also needs to be compatible with the tablet.
Chrome books didn’t work with my dcs for example.

My dc has one and it’s pretty amazing.

If you got really cheap versions of a laptop and a tablet you might be able to do it for under £300. You could ask on local Facebook if anyone selling a laptop?

If you don't have a laptop or computer already I'd have a rethink and look at an android tablet with a pen like www.techradar.com/uk/reviews/huawei-mediapad-m5-lite

!Wacom’s intros and Cintiq tablets are super popular and are fantastic though very expensive. I use my 12.9″ iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and get the same results. And my IPad does SO MUCH MORE. I suggest you take all of the answers you get here as general advice towards which ones you should try yourself. Then, go out and tried. When you are spending this much money on a single input device for your computer, you definitely want to make sure you're going to absolutely love it for a long time. This is not a purchase mistake you want to make.

And be sure to try to iPad while you're out there. You may be very pleasantly surprised and shocked at the amount you can do with the Apple Pencil. It's pretty amazing.
