He's a WWII veteran who turns 100 years old on 30th April and he decided to walk 100 laps of his garden to raise £1000 for the NHS. He aims to do 10 laps a day (at 25 metres each) and his online fundraiser has just smashed £6,000,000 (6 million!!). Piers Morgan has started a campaign to get him a knighthood.

You can do it Captain Tom!

Why isn't there more outrage about this? The nhs is not a charity, it shouldn't have had to come to this. I applaud him but its a discrace that it has come to this.

ILoveYou3000 · 15/04/2020 14:56

I am! I think it's incredible, £7.1 million now. He's doing more than just raising money.

Drogonssmile · 15/04/2020 15:12

Oh he's so lovely. I read about him earlier and it made me cry. Feeling a bit emotional anyway today (hormones) but that tipped me over.

Drogonssmile · 15/04/2020 15:12

I just hope he doesn't over do it!

TerrorWig · 15/04/2020 15:14

I agree with @CatBatCat. It is a disgrace that the government can find £10K per MP to work from home but the NHS needs donations of PPE and money.

I mean it’s great for him but disgraceful he feels he has to do it.

middleager · 15/04/2020 15:20

The starvation of the NHS is a national scandal, I agree.

I've donated to the Captain's cause, but it jars that we have to do this when MPs' expenses and other wastages hit the headlines.

Our country has to hand out a begging bowl for the NHS, for ventilators, for PPE. It is a disgrace.

Frownette · 15/04/2020 15:21

It's going to NHS charities same as Duke of Westminsters donation so still govt responsibility re PPE etc.

He's a fantastic chap, he's done incredibly. Go Tom!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 15/04/2020 15:23

Good for him. First, because it raises money and yet again reinforces Yorkshire's reputation. Second, because it highlights the Tories' underfunding. Four years, and we'll reduce them to a rump of impotent gammon frothers.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 15/04/2020 22:45

He's up to 9.9 million now!

He's hit 10million!

Victoria6386 · 15/04/2020 23:20

No, its stupidly feeding into the publicity overload from everyone who's so desperat to virtu signal their alligence to a failing health care system. This will only lead to the privatisation of the NHS which is what the conservative government despretly wants.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 15/04/2020 23:23

Amazing Smile

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 16/04/2020 18:54

£15 million now! And he broke Just Giving (who have also donated £100k themselves!) when he was doing his final laps this morning with a guard of honour ❤️
