Side by Side vs French door refrigerator?

I need a new fridge and cannot decide which to get. I currently have a side by side which I absolutely love, but I just wondered if anyone thought the French door is a better use of space?

How much room have you got? If Space was not an issue I would have a tall freezer and a separate tall fridge freezer. Failing that, the top of the range Samsung fridge freezers are a generally pretty cool. I would go american size. Depends on budget and space.

Last year we went from a side by side to a french door.

Think about what you keep in the fridge and freezer. I prefer the french fridge bit. But, the freezer has two drawers, great for veggies and most stuff but awful for pizzas.

Our fridge/freezer is built into our kitchen so when our side by side broke 2 years ago we needed to get one exactly the same size. I changed to a French style and absolutely love it, would never go back to an American style. There is much more space now that there isn't the bulky middle section separating the fridge and freezer. The freezer section has 2 deep drawers and a narrower shelf and there's plenty of room. The drawer at the base of the fridge is great for chilling wine quickly too.

Matter of preference but I think it looks much nicer too

I have a Samsung American fridge and hate the freezer part. Ridiculously narrow design, it takes a regular pizza diagonally only! I'd go for one of those double door fridges with freezer drawers beneath next time. Am not familiar with French door type. Unless you mean like in a supermarket?

There was a double-door fridge in our house when we moved in a couple of years ago and we liked it so much we had our new kitchen built around it.

My mum raves about it when she comes to visit, she loves the double doors and how easy it is to find things and the heavy freezer drawers are so much easier to use on a wider one than the narrow plastic buckets we had on our old single-unit-size fridge freezer.

The downside of the French door is that the water dispenser is in the fridge part so takes up valuable fridge space! Do those with the French door find things get lost in the freezer drawers? I really like being able to see everything in the side by side, even though the freezer part is narrow.
