2 million unemployed?

I'm old enough to remember unemployment figures like that. The nation must be bigger so as a percentage of total population that number must be smaller.

Do you think the actual numbers will be higher than 2 million? I fear that it will. It seems another example of the media finessing the truth to make us all as compliant and accepting - boiling frogs I guess.

I'm sure we measure the unemployment rate by how many people are claiming jobseekers allowance. But those figures don't include people who aren't eligible to claim it, people who've had it stopped for no good reason, people on zero hours contracts who aren't actually getting any hours, and all sorts. That's why it would be better to measure employment rather than unemployment.
