No word of a lie, a few years ago my cat came back into the garden dragging a full (freshly cooked) roast chicken with her. No idea where she got that from.

BearSoFair · 17/04/2020 12:41

We used to have to hide doughnuts in the microwave, if our old cat had even the fainest whiff of a doughnut he'd turn the kitchen upside down to find it! Current two cats are ok, one does the pitiful 'I'm soooo starving' meow as we eat but neither of them are food thieves!

WeirdAndScary · 17/04/2020 13:35

My cats have mixed ability at food theft. One cat delights in waiting for the neighbours to have BBQs and then steals the chicken, sausages and burgers. The other two can't be bothered and only steal food from my toddler DD.

Sadly all passed into animal heaven now , but I have had
An alsatian who mugged you for salad. And raw eggs. And apples.
And daddy long legs
Crisp eating cat. Especially cheese and onion walkers.
Pepperoni eating cat. Even bettering it was on a slice of pizza.
I had sat down on the stairs, with a small cookie in one hand, drink in the other
One cat walked past and stole my cookie. Another had his head in my pint of water...
In fact, we had to leave water in a pint glass for him all the time.
Biscuit cat only ever drank from the dripping tap.
And our smallest, skinniest black cat was a tuna fiend .
He was the one to appear at the window if a can of tuna was opened.
He used to be at one end of the line of food bowls at feeding time. He would eat his food. Then shove the next cat out of the way and finish theirs. Same with cat 3, then cat 4.

Biscuit eating cat has also "borrowed" a couple of roast chickens. From next door

(They loved him)
Hamburgers (with bun and cheese)
Several fresh rabbits (caught them himself, so not stolen?)

This is what I have to put up with on a daily basis 😂

My mates Labrador once ate a chilli covered pizza from a box, then replaced the lid so we didn't notice until some of his exhaust fumes got unbearable.

user1471565182 · 17/04/2020 17:13

ohhhh my ex had one of those, Jarvis, he used to eat my bloody books or peck at my hair.

user1471565182 · 17/04/2020 17:13

the bird I mean.

spiderlight · 17/04/2020 17:20

Our dog will steal anything even remotely edible and he can speed-eat while running away like nothing I have ever seen before. His worst crime to date was the day DS brought his new friend from high school home for tea for the first time. I'd ordered them pizza, which they were eating on their laps on the sofa, and our dog was hanging round hopefully. New Friend shifted position slightly, half his pizza slid down the box towards the dog, and the blinking creature took that to mean that it was being offered to him, took a flying leap for it and inhaled the whole lot - about four big slices, still hot - in about ten seconds flat. DS was mortified but his friend thought it was hysterical.

These are excellent Grin and make me feel a little better about my lot...

Also had a neighbour cat who was obsessed with salad when we ate in the garden. Especially lettuce and tomatoes. Confused

LooQoo · 17/04/2020 17:32

The walking dustbin, aka a Labrador:

A whole pizza, he was young and very proud of himself so ran up and down the corridor with it in his mouth, showing off. Until he got told off.

Now he’s learnt to be more sneaky:
Loaves of bread (a few times) closes the cupboard door behind him.
A Victoria sponge - was sitting on a dining chair, nonchalantly licking his lips when I came in and caught him. Yes, he had eaten the whole thing.
Christmas chocolates from under the tree. He unwrapped the gift and chewed through the cellophane and cardboard to get to them (if I’d known the gift had chocolate in I wouldn’t have put it under the tree).
Got over the fence (he’s never done this before) and was heading straight for the neighbour’s barbecue, luckily they saw him and managed to head him off before he got his paws on anything. I’ve now got to put a trellis up.
Loves to bin raid.

Deathraystare · 18/04/2020 10:44

Our first cat used to get on my parents' bed and if mum had made dad breakfast i bed and it was either omelette or scrambled egg, the cat would 'stalk' up the bed (you can't see me!). Dunno why she bothered with the charade, dad always gave in to her!!

Trudij123 · 18/04/2020 17:24

My English setter stole half a plate of home made sausage rolls once - they were out on the table for a buffet lunch and he took them one at a time so nobody noticed until we went into the room to see what he was doing keep running in and out 😆

Trudij123 · 18/04/2020 17:25

Mind you, the same English setter used to ping chocolate tree decorations down for the springer spaniel we had at the same time.

When we had cats NOTHING was safe. You’d often be eating your dinner and a paw would appear like a periscope, and start patting around the plate to see what she could “accidentally” find...

SewingMum46 · 18/04/2020 17:34

Our current cat is a charming, polite and well mannered lad who isn't in the slightest bit interested in our food. I can leave food out on the worktop and lock him in the kitchen overnight and it will still be there in the morning. However, we've previously had one cat who stole a whole T- bone steak from my husband's plate - we were eating outside that day and my husband chased the cat twice around the house, managed to get the steak off him then stuck it in the deep fat fryer "to sterilise it" then ate it. We had another car who stole uncooked green beans out of the saucepan. And I knew someone whose cat routinely stole cucumbers from his neighbour's greenhouse then climbed the 8 foot wall between their gardens to bring home the salad....Grin

MrsTommyShelby · 18/04/2020 17:35

My cats will eat anything. Odd ones being curry, whole chunks of tomato, chewed through packets to eat the loaf of bread inside, pasta, rice, tomato soup, one goes crazy for the smell of mint or bleach. We've become very strict with food over the years but they still manage to get hold of things they shouldn't have. One of them picks the cat food out of his bowl, licks the jelly off and flicks the chunk across the room.

decisionsdecision · 18/04/2020 17:46

I cooked a gammon in coke last week. I was so proud and it tasted amazing. I left it on the side to cool before putting it in the fridge and my dog jumped up and grabbed it before I could grab her. She has never done that before. Maybe she thought it smelt nice as well 🙄

FudgeBrownie2019 · 18/04/2020 17:50

Our spaniel has eaten - and pooped out on lovely rugs - teeny tiny toddler socks. Our cockapoo will eat anything and everything including cat poop, cat food, cat vomit if he can find it and his favourite food in the world; the crumbs under the bird feeders in the garden. He gets fed twice daily and is just a fat lard.

One of our cats is part feral so has always been a little shady. I left a leg of lamb out on the worktop (frozen solid, huge, at least three times the weight of the devils own cat) and the little hairy beast chewed through the plastic wrap and gnawed at the frozen meat for a hearty lunch despite having access to his own food ALL DAY LONG.

The animals in this house are a little defective.

midnightstar66 · 18/04/2020 17:53

A friend of mine has 2 whippets (well one now but whippet 2 dies of old age at 16) they were awful. Didn't matter where you left things or how little time you were gone, whatever was accessible- even though you'd never imagine it was - was gone in a flash. We used to spend a lot of time there and house sit and in my time I've seen entire blocks of Stilton including the wrap go. Bacon packets somehow opened and the contents gone in a flash all the things toxic to dogs such as raisins and chocolate devoured over the years with never the slightest effect. Whippet 1 is now 17.5 years old and apart from being stiff, the picture of health. She has a new whippet and it's obsession with food is similar.

midnightstar66 · 18/04/2020 17:54

I also had a carriage horse that once swiped a McDonald's cheeseburger from my hands 😬.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 18/04/2020 17:57

One Xmas many years ago my now dearly departed Dobie, stole the goose off the side 😳 she didn't have form for this, hence why I left it unattended.

Came in and her and my little jrt were having a feeding frenzy with it on the floor 😂

KenDodd · 18/04/2020 18:03

I was eating chicken at an outdoor table in a restaurant once. I huge (but friendly) German Shepherd was sat a couple of feet away watching (begging). I dropped a bit of chicken on the ground for him, he looked very pleased and moved to get it when this tiny kitten appeared from nowhere, ran out, hissed, scratched him nose and took his chicken off him! Poor dog looked sad and helpless watching the kitten stealing his food.

KenDodd · 18/04/2020 18:06

My Jack Russell stole a dark chocolate orange one Christmas. I know dogs can't eat chocolate, especially dark, so then had to pay £90 to get her stomach pumped at the vet.

AnneElliott · 18/04/2020 18:08

My little cat gets in the fridge if you turn your back with the door open. She then proceeds to munch her way through whatever is in there.

MIL had her to stay while we went on holiday and thought she'd lost her. DS suggested she check the fridge and she was in there - and had eaten a whole chicken pie.

KenDodd · 18/04/2020 18:08

Another time she stole and ate one of those fat pecker things you hang out for the birds. Disgusting!
