Are there any garages open anywhere? Help!

Does anyone know?
Husband has just ripped a hole in one of my car tyres. No spare tyre (new car and hadn’t got round to getting one). He is a CPN so needs his car. I’m a teacher, will need my car to get to work when I’m rota after the holiday.
As far as I’m aware all garages are closed. Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?

I think garages are open for repairs , they won’t be open now but I’d call a local one first thing tomorrow.

Our local garages are open for repairs.

CurbsideProphet · 13/04/2020 21:00

Our local mechanic garages are all still operating normally to accommodate key workers who need their cars etc in working order. It's worth ringing your local ones tomorrow to check.

Oh brilliant - I’ll ring our local one in the morning. Panicked a little there!

Same happened to us. Quick fit are open and we got a new type and tracking within an hour.

Garages are still open. I had my car repaired last week. I used a big chain rather than shop around and got it sorted really quickly as they were less busy.

I had a puncture last week. Booked a driveway repair through Kwik Fit. Left the keys outside so no contact with anyone. They came out the day after I booked a repair.

lljkk · 13/04/2020 22:01

All of our local garages seem to be closed. Let us know how you get on, OP.

YourDaughter · 13/04/2020 22:25

Thanks all - I’ll report back tomorrow @lljkk

Booked in. DH is taking wheel off tonight and dropping it in to be replaced tomorrow on his way to work - can’t take the car as tyre is totally flat.

Will have to go in the be aligned properly once we’re released.

Thanks for the advice yesterday.

that's good news. And what a stupid idea to design cars without spares as this proves.

YourDaughter · 14/04/2020 19:11

@mencken - agreed! Can’t believe they can get away with it tbh Angry

backfiring greenwash - a spare tyre adds a bit of extra weight so that's allegedly why they have been stopped. The difference would be minimal and easily overridden by good driving.

still, this is what happens when you have governments (not just ours) run by people with no knowledge of science.
