I was going to make one for dinner but I have no plain flour. I do have bread flour and self raising flour.

Which would be the better substitute?

Definitely not the self raising - it turns out like sponge cake!

I had to use SR last week and they came out lovely and stodgy and huge. I'm a fan of stodgy Grin but others probably aren't!

It's in the oven fluffing up before my eyes (bread flour) Grin.

My late mum always used SR flour @rockbird as she preferred the texture. Must admit, it was lovely and a bit spongey. Not sure the others here would enjoy it.

Yes definitely spongey although mine was more of a ... 🤔 slab Grin
