So my son inhaled abit of water after slipping in the hot tub ( I was with him he was straight up ) he choked a little and coughed and was fine after 5 minutes. I called 111 and took him to get checked just incase. Said all sounds clear just to keep on eye on him for next 72 hours. I'm scared to go to sleep hes beside me now and seems fine. All I've done is read and read and all that comes up is secondary drowning?! Please help, is he going to be ok? Sad

It is scary when something like this happens but if you've had him checked over then I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine.

Try to not keep googling, if he's next to you and it makes you feel safer I'd keep him there with you for tonight. I remember reading about secondary drowning and thinking it sounded terrifying bit it is actually extremely rare. Flowers

From what I understand, secondary drowning is an internet myth- it's never actually occurred in a child.

Laurenmummytoo2 · 13/04/2020 00:42

Oh really Confused

He is at side of me now and staying in my bed for next few nights. I'm just soo scared to go to sleep and something bad going to happen 😔

Unless hes still coughing loads now etc it will be fine OP. Dry drowning is very rare indeed and if you think about it so many of us go under water and choke a bit when swimming etc. Try not to worry.

Laurenmummytoo2 · 13/04/2020 00:49

Yeah he coughed for a bit after but hasn't really coughed since. Just little cough which he had before anyway. Hes been absolutely fine in himself.

Got him saw at ane as 111 said too and she said his chest and lungs sounded clear but to keep an eye on him for next 72 hours.

Xx

@KrakowDawn

Secondary drowning is not a myth.

Although rare.
It is very real

Laurenmummytoo2 · 13/04/2020 11:24

So far hes okay. Still scared though 3 days is going to go so slow for me. If I see any kind of change in him I shall just take him straight back x

@JustStayHome Google "secondary drowning debunked" there are literally thousands of references to this. The child in Texas that died had an undiagnosed heart condition.

@Laurenmummytoo2 I hope your son is well today Thanks how old is he?

Laurenmummytoo2 · 13/04/2020 15:22

I will have a look thanks..

He seems okay hes been eating and playing etc all as normal. Little coughing but did have a small cough before hand. He is 5..

Thanks for asking x

Afaik the things to watch for with secondary drowning are: cough, temperature and very poor form.

JustStayHome · 13/04/2020 16:00

@KrakowDawn

Why do you keep saying it isn't a thing?

It is !!!

Laurenmummytoo2 · 13/04/2020 16:02

He seems his normal self. Just the little cough but like I said he had that before it happened. X
