I fancy a leisurely late lunch somewhere beautiful by the riverside. Who's coming and what are you having to eat?

As it's Easter Sunday, I thought I'd have a lovely walk along the river in the sunshine, and stop off somewhere relaxed and beautiful to have a delicious lunch. As it happens I've just had a peep at the menu and it's extremely extensive, and caters for all tastes! So I am going to have a very chilled glass of Pinot Grigio, followed by mussels in white wine to start, with crusty bread for dipping. Followed by mustard pork shank. Are you coming? I have a huge table overlooking the river.... you can see groups of people walking past, friends having picnics, boaters and yachts. But, my big corner table is empty so I need lots of friends to all come and squish in. Will you come and have lunch and what are you ordering :)

Mmm thanks for letting me join in. I am bring sunscreen for everyone.

I am having lots of Malbourough Sauvignon Blanca. I am going to have a duck salad for starter, a double portion of scallop starter from my favourite restaurant (Jacobs on the Mall Cork City) with a side order of truffle fries and a macaron for desert.

haba · 12/04/2020 19:02

@WednesdaySpinner you look gorgeous! Where's your dress from please?

I wish I'd ordered some mushrooms with my lamb too Envy

haba · 12/04/2020 19:04

@purplecorkheart those fries look interesting... are they cooked in truffle oil, or do they have actual truffles with them?

Actually, we are all paying for just what we've had, right, not splitting equally, yes?

iklboo · 12/04/2020 19:07

I'm dangling my feet in the river waiting for the sunset.

helpfulperson · 12/04/2020 19:10

Thanks for the sunscreen. Good call.

I'm now wondering if I can sneak in an aperol spritz before my moules arrive.

ifowaa · 12/04/2020 19:11

Caesar salad followed by something Turkish, I doubt I'll have room for dessert, but I'll have a glass of chilled dessert wine and an expresso, bliss!

Anniecott · 12/04/2020 19:14

Sorry I'm late, I decided to go clothes shopping today and buy myself a whole new summer wardrobe 🤗
I'll have a bottle of champagne and the lobster with all the trimmings please? X

ClientQ · 12/04/2020 19:15

I'll have a v cold glass of Pinot Grigio blush please

No starter for me
Main - a medium rare burger with everything on it. Plenty of gherkins, lettuce, mustard, mayo, bacon, red onion, melted cheese, and a naice bun Grin with skin on chips and coleslaw
Afterwards I'll be stuffed but I'll squeeze in some lemon meringue pie with clotted cream ice cream

CushyButtercup · 12/04/2020 19:17

Half a dozen oysters with a red wine and shallot dressing washed down with a glass of Guinness (hope this riverside is in Donegal so the Guinness is good). Then a simple grilled lobster and salad with a couple of glasses of chablis. If I have room a creme caramel for pudding but definitely a double espresso.

sarahC40 · 12/04/2020 19:18

Too late for starters? Never mind - I will have two puds (2 spoons if anyone wants to try them). I’d like the fantastic beef roast with all the veg and massive, embarrassingly large Yorkshire’s, with fresh horseradish and English mustard. Big gin and tonic please if anyone’s off to the bar - I will get the next one.

muddledmidget · 12/04/2020 19:18

I'll join you if I may. I'll start with a glass of something fizzy and then I'll sit near @Remus for a Greek meze. I think I would like a Greek salad, dolmades, fava, gigantes beans and aubergine rolls, plus some calamari and chicken kebabs. To finish I'll have the baklava and definitely some raki

Greenandcabbagelooking · 12/04/2020 19:19

Alcohol-free fruit cider to drink. Bruchetta to start, followed by battered halloumi and chips, with peas and tartar sauce. Then lemon sobert with dark chocolate curls.

I've got some nice balnkets as it's getting a wee bit chilly now.

Rockbird · 12/04/2020 19:20

Sorry I'm late. Annoyingly I've already eaten so I'll just have a large Diet Coke please. If I hadn't already eaten I would have had the lamb shank with creamy mash and roasted carrots. Ice cream for pudding please.

You managed to get a great table here. I love people watching, especially by the river. What a great idea.

TeddyIsaHe · 12/04/2020 19:22

God yes please.

I’ll start with an extra dry, extra olives gin martini.

Scallops to start, saddle of lamb for main and a cheeseboard for dessert. With port.

Then a whiskey sour.

Bezalelle · 12/04/2020 19:23

I'll have a cold can of Guinness (in this fantasy I'm not pregnant!) and a big white barm with coleslaw, salad and Quorn turkey slices. Followed by a frozen chocolate mousse and some mango slices.

TheChosenTwo · 12/04/2020 19:27

Sounds good, I’ll order what I had last night as it’s my ultimate meal Grin
Baked camembert with crusty bread
Ribeye steak with a garlic butter and homemade chips
Sticky toffee pudding with as much sauce as will fit into the bowl and some clotted cream.
To drink, I’ll have 4 cocktails please!

quince2figs · 12/04/2020 19:29

Sounds wonderful.... elderflower G&T for me, please, or possibly a glass of rose champagne

Seafood platter with wild garlic aioli and very cold Viognier
Side of skin-on not too chunky chips

Hot raspberry soufflé with pistachio ice-cream, and a few fresh rasps

Small very stinky cheeseboard with fresh figs, quince jelly and Carr’s water biscuits

Flat white

Nice meeting you all!

1point21gigawatts · 12/04/2020 19:31

Ooo this is lovely. Well done on getting this table. I've brought some blankets in case it starts to get chilly.

Can I join in with the cheese and charcuterie mentioned earlier, with a baked camembert and cranberry sauce?

I've started on the vinho verde, so I'll just get some more of that if that have it?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/04/2020 19:31

Oooh. Can I have chicken liver patê with toasted sourdough to start, accompanied with a light red, like a Pinot Noir? Then for my main I'd like spaghetti vongole, with a chilled Viognier.

No pudding, but I'd like a creamy coffee afterwards please.

Sounds delightful. Smile

CherryPavlova · 12/04/2020 19:34

We decided to pop over to the Isle of Wight for a couple of days, since it’s so sunny. A quick dip, then a tea in the pepperpot watching the boats before popping back to change and walk to the Royal.
A bottle of Sancerre, mackerel fillet with rhubarb confit to start, crab to follow. Then maybe just their local cheese washed down with a port.

MiggyMoggyMoo · 12/04/2020 19:35

Champagne for me please! Rosé if they have it!

Really garlicky prawns or chicken liver parfait to start, decisions decisions.

Ribeye (rare please) with bernaise and triple cooked chips. I'm getting onion rings if anyone wants to share?

No pudding because I prefer savoury.
Definitely up for the cheese board later. Can we get extra bread and butter?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/04/2020 19:37

MuddledMidget - I love gigantes beans so much, so long as you don't mind me poking any bits that are too tomatoey over to your side!

I'll also share your baklava, please. I'll order us a couple of kataifis (sp?) too.

iklboo · 12/04/2020 19:39

If we're having the cheeseboard later may I please have:

Scallops & chorizo to start
Sea bass, scallops & prawn risotto (I love scallops) for main
Lemon & raspberry cheesecake for dessert

A large gin & tonic while I'm eating, large Cointreau at the end please.

MakeLemonade · 12/04/2020 19:40

Onion rings an inspired choice. All the steak and lamb is making me regret my vegetarianism. I might have to come back tomorrow!

Roominmyhouse · 12/04/2020 19:47

If the cheese board is coming later I’ll have a goats cheese salad to start, then a Jacobs ladder beef rib with fries and coleslaw. Sticking to the lemon tart for pudding though!
