Boris 'it could have gone either way'

Well he's recorded a very passionate speech and looks very poorly indeed.
He shows a huge amount of gratitude towards the staff who have cared for him and he appeared quite shaken. Lips quivering towards the end I thought.
I really hope this is a turning point and our government will invest properly into an NHS that has been in its knees for a long time.
Maybe he will vote in favour of NHS staff pay increases next time.

@Dogsaresomucheasier - thankfully for everyone you don’t work in the NHS

BiologyIsReal · 12/04/2020 17:17

That post says more about Dogs than it does about Boris

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 12/04/2020 17:19

I too felt he showed genuine gratitude

I feel the same when David Cameron spoke of the NHS support with his son Ivan it was genuine and heartfelt (and very emotional)

But does that change political thinking I don’t think so does it change the money that is there to spend no, and it’s not just about investing more into the NHS it has to change its unsustainable as it is regardless of how much cash is thrown at it

Some difficult and unpopular decisions will need to be made but it won’t be for sometime

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 12/04/2020 17:20

What a truly disgusting human you must be to make remark like that dogsaresomucheasier

One thing this virus has shown us, is that some nasty spiteful people are around.

Mmm let me guess a socialist and avid supporter of the NHS are you Dogs ?

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 17:24

The sad thing is, though, that most people will presumably not get two nurses to stand by their bedside for 48 hours - for ordinary people they will be rushing around between multiple patients who will die despite their best efforts,

I was thinking exactly the same thing.
I hope he now has a different view about how to finance the NHS but I won't be betting on it.

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 17:27

@Dogsaresomucheasier
I loath everything I know about Boris Johnson but regardless of what I think of him, he's still a person - a father, a son, a partner. Your comment is the worst one I have ever read on MN. The lowest of the low, I'd prefer Boris Johnson to you any day.

MoltoAgitato · 12/04/2020 17:27

Actually in our itu at the moment one nurse per patient is standard. You’d see more than 2 over 24 hours though.

1066vegan · 12/04/2020 17:28

First time I've ever believed a word that's come out of that man's mouth; I think that he was sincere and feels genuine gratitude towards the doctors and nurses who cared for him.

Unfortunately, long term, I don't think it will make any difference to his values or fundamental political beliefs. He's still a Tory, believes in a small state with as little government intervention as possible, loves free market capitalism and won't be willing to fund public services by raising taxation.

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 17:28

@EnthusiasmIsDisturbed Mmm let me guess a socialist and avid supporter of the NHS are you Dogs ?

Even Socialists are appalled by Dogs despicable comment. Not in my name and all that.

zen1 · 12/04/2020 17:30

I just hope he uses his experience as a force for good (ie more funding for the NHS) and it doesn’t all become a distant memory to him a few months down the line.

Tajiri · 12/04/2020 17:33

1 nurse to one patient in ITU is standard care.

Otherrooms · 12/04/2020 17:35

I feel the same when David Cameron spoke of the NHS support with his son Ivan it was genuine and heartfelt (and very emotional)

No. Cameron is a cold hearted, ruthless bastard and despite everything ran the NHS into the ground.
He didn't give a damn.

I wonder how long it will last.

This.
I don't begrudge St.Thomas's hospital for allocating 2 nurses to his care. They must have been under so much pressure. Nobody would have wanted to be one watch' on their own if such a high profile figure had died.

Only time will tell.

OtterPotter · 12/04/2020 17:38

I'm guessing this is the first time he or any of his family have been treated in an NHS hospital in his life.

I'm hoping it will have given him an epiphany. I'll believe it when I see it.

PigletJohn · 12/04/2020 17:39

Steady on dogs.

No need to stoop to the vile depths of Julia Hartley-Brewer.

Otherrooms · 12/04/2020 17:41

I'm guessing this is the first time he or any of his family have been treated in an NHS hospital in his life.

Definitely a situation where personal wealth can't help. To feel helpless like so many others must be humbling.

OP posts:
EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 12/04/2020 17:42

And you don’t think Boris is ruthless

You have read my message wrong despite being genuine in their gratitude it doesn’t necessarily change political beliefs

Boris has always been known as being the most ruthless of politicians (we only need to look at his personal life to know he is cold hearted not that makes him a better or worse politician but ruthless he absolutely is)

Otherrooms · 12/04/2020 17:42

What's she saying?

And you don’t think Boris is ruthless

Oh God yes. He is- without a doubt.

Like I say... time will tell.

OP posts:
OhTheRoses · 12/04/2020 17:46

It is a reasonable expectation to expect the NHS to be appropriately funded and very well managed. Emphasis on the latter. Regtettably it doesn't matter how much money it is given if the model doesn't work.

Otherrooms · 12/04/2020 17:47

Boris has always been known as being the most ruthless of politicians

Up until this point, he has had a charmed, privileged life. He hasn't given a damn about others.
Maybe a big scare like this will give him a jolt.
