Does anyone else have terrible hay fever!

I've been hiding inside all day and my eyes are still stinging and itchy. I have prescription meds from my GP but nothing is helping this year. Is anyone else struggling?!

Mine’s been absolutely horrendous- the worst it’s been for years. Yesterday was so awful that I just slept all afternoon. Today is better, but I haven’t been outside! DS is really suffering too.

BigButtons · 13/04/2020 11:19

I don’t normally suffer but these last couple of weeks have been bad. Constantly runny nose, coughing, wheezing. 2 of my dc are really suffering too. One is coming out in hives.

My DH suffers from hay fever and he gets a steroid nose spray called mometasone prescribed from his doctor every year and it completely takes his hay fever away! He tried all tablets, over the counter sprays etc before and none of them worked. You can only get mometasone prescribed though. Please try it as it will make so much difference!

It's weird, I've never before had hay fever in my life until this year. My eyes are so itchy and sore. Washing my face after I've been outside does help a little.

It’s awful at the moment - fexofenadine not touching it and my asthma has triggered too. Huge sympathy for everyone out there. I might try phoning the gp for that nasal spray and see if they will prescribe via phone ?

ThomasHardyPerennial · 13/04/2020 11:31

I read it is supposed to be especially bad this year.

AntiHop · 13/04/2020 11:32

I take loratadine and beconase all year round, seems to keep things at bay. I occasionally try to come off them and symptoms come back with badly.

AntiHop · 13/04/2020 11:33

@musicinspring1 you can buy some sprays over the counter.

Victoria6386 · 13/04/2020 11:35

Im at the point where im damping paper towels in cold water, folding them into squares and putting them on my eyes

florababy84 · 13/04/2020 11:35

Yes all my family has been very bad in recent weeks and the weird thing reading this thread is that I'm not in the UK, and my local FB group has all been saying the same thing.

A worldwide hay fever phenomenon? Could it be related to coronavirus??

musicinspring1 · 13/04/2020 11:40

Thanks @AntiHop but I was wondering about the steroid nasal spray mentioned up thread - it really is so bad at the moment. I will try an otc one first though. I used to use Haymax balm around my nose but haven’t seen that on sale for ages - am assuming Vaseline would do a similar job as a barrier. It’s so debilitating when it’s this bad and people think it’s ‘just hayfever’ Sad
