Loughborough or Leeds for art?

Leeds Uni and Leeds Art school both have offers. And Loughborough but how is it for fine art? Sadly UAL never even bothered to say yes or no. Newcastle is the other one but she doesnt have the same feel for it.

Any experience of either?

My daughter is at Leeds Arts uni. She loves it. One of the tutors has taught 3 Turner Prize winners there.Beat that!

Not Loughborogh. Just sports and beer here.

Leeds much more arty.

I visited Loughborough with her but we were both unimpressed. No place for an art student.

Shame UAL never even got back I guess she can always do a year out in London for the year in industry. I didnt realise fine art is four years.

Leeds is a better place to live as a student too. Lively big city plus arty things like Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Barbara Hepworth gallery and David Hockey at Saltaire all nearby.

Unless Loughborough has gone significantly up in the world recently, there's not much going on there.

One of my DC is at Leeds Arts - really nice uni and we have been particularly pleased with the pastoral care.

The alumni for the school is very, very impressive and it has an excellent reputation.

Always lots going on in Leeds and it’s been an excellent choice so far.

Leeds

Which halls are they in Comfort?

Liberty Park - again highly recommended. The whole complex is for Leeds Arts students so they are with lots of like minded people.

Another vote for Leeds Arts, over Loughborough. Tho DS will be doing Graphic Design, he just wasn't impressed with the quality of the 3rd year work he saw at Loughborough, and it is all beer and sport.

He's actually chosen Kingston because it's much nearer to home and is up there in the ranking with Leeds.

Leeds is an hour from us. Dont know if thats a good thing or not 😄

That's a good thing. A hour is a great distance for uni, for the reasons I don't need to spell out 😊

One reason my DS ultimately rejected Leeds was because, chatting to others at the interview, he discovered they were all more or less 'local', I.e could nip home of a weekend, whereas he'd be. 4.5 hr drive/5.5 hr train from home.

If we lived an hour away, it would have been a no-brainer.

Thats good to know. I just don't know what the opportunities will be like after compared to down south. I guess you never know with art anyway.
