Defrosting milk

Frownette · 11/04/2020 12:21

I ordered a food box but the milk was 2l, far too much for me on my own, so decanted some into a couple of pint bottles and put it in the freezer.

Is it best to defrost on the side, or put it in the fridge? Not sure if it affects quality.

I do it on the side as it takes ages in the fridge.
Never experienced a problem and we've been doing it for years.

I defrost mine on the side, give it a shake and make sure it's all defrosted right through before I put in the fridge as I find it tends to a) separate and you end up with milky water at the top and the rest at the bottom and b) there always seems to be a milksicle in the centre of the bottle which leads to the above!

I always defrost out on the side or overnight in the sink then put it in fridge once completely or mostly defrosted. Doesn't affect it at all. Shake well before reusing after thawing though as creamier molecules sink to bottom.

I zap it in the microwave full power straight from frozen until some of it starts to melt, then leave on the side with frequent shaking.

overnight in the sink, just in case the bottle splits. Then in the fridge once thawed. As noted, shake a bit. doesn't work so well on full fat stuff but semi skimmed is fine.

Aha, the side then a shake it is. Thank you!

@CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate

I read a thread that asked about inspiration for people's user names and someone said they use whatever is in front of them at the time. I was in front of a mirror and had just got up after a Nightshift when I chose this one 🤣

@Oldhaggard Grin

If I chose a username based on what I look like in the morning it would be along similar but somewhat more disastrous lines.. eek!!

I often freeze excess milk - I just leave it out overnight, preferably in a bowl to catch the moisture that comes off it. As a pp said, it takes ages in the fridge.
