Colouring in eggs with felt tip pens

I am off work for Easter weekend and it is quite boring. So I was thinking tomorrow I might try decorating some eggs for Easter. I think I know how to blow the middle out of the egg, but I am not sure about decorating afterwards. I might have some paint somewhere, but I would prefer to use felt tips. Does anyone know if they will work well on egg shell? Will the colours be bright, and/or will they smudge?

Thanks!

Sharpies work on eggs. But if you have young dc it's better to hard boil than blow the eggs as they have to press more firmly with pens than paint.

Nail varnish works well.

You need to wash the egg well in washing up liquid before painting as the grease from hands can prevent felt tip from sticking to the egg. Otherwise no problem! Splashing watercolours on and then blowing different colours all over the eggs with a straw whilst still wet is good fun too with little people.

Or white crayon followed by food colouring, to dye everything but the bit you crayoned.

I couldn't get eggs to actually eat today.

Great, thank! Lot of good ideas there. I have a whole lot of colored nail varnishes that I never use, so we can try them out too.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get eggs today. I am not in the UK and we don't have a problem with food supplies here, so I am not wasting eggs someone in the UK could have bought.
