What do you see that you don’t understand or find odd??

For me it’s the fake bricked up windows on new builds.

What are they all about? I see loads of them

I've been assuming the fake bricked up windows were to mimic old houses with window tax bricked up windows. They look stupid though.

TheExtraNolan · 09/04/2020 18:18

Half epecting to see me mentioned on this! I've been going for a walk every day at odd times, just whenever I'm ready, and bumped into the same woman four days in a row! What are the odds?

alphasox · 09/04/2020 18:40

A couple of streets over from us someone has stuck loads of little wooden “windows” and “doors” onto a big tree in their front yard (open plan so easy to see from the pavement).
The kids love it as they think fairies and elves live in the tree. They put a mini Christmas tree outside the elves’ door in December.

Dilisk · 09/04/2020 19:47

We have some amiable hippies living in a bender in a fairy fort (everyone local is anticipating some horrible supernatural retribution), a lot of early bluebells, and yesterday a basking shark in the bay.

Dizzywizz · 09/04/2020 20:05

What is a bender? Two people have mentioned this now!

MasterCat · 09/04/2020 20:23

I saw this today in the next village on my walk.

Wonder which neighbour it's aimed at.

At first I read it as a man having a bender in some private woodland, which made more sense to meGrin

ivegotthisyeah · 09/04/2020 20:40

I saw a postman dressed as a pirate today that made me smile

TrickyKid · 09/04/2020 21:55

What's a bender
It's a sort of tent made from branches bent over to make a dome and covered in tarpaulin.

SwerfandTurf · 09/04/2020 21:58

I found out my housing development has a famous cat.

Dilisk · 09/04/2020 22:01

A bender is a simple tent you can make yourself — basically branches bent into a dome covered in a tarpaulin. Most people would probably associate them with New Age Travellers and the like.

Doobedoobedoobe · 09/04/2020 22:03

A house near us is absolutely covered, and I mean covered, in cat ornaments. The walls, the fence, the driveway (leaving only a small space for the car to park and a small path to walk to the door), every windowsill, all along the edge of the roof. They appeared to be glued down to prevent theft. And scattered around the cats are hundreds and hundreds of glass beads. It’s so weird and creepy.

I had thought maybe an older eccentric lady lived there but it turns out it’s a couple in their 20s who both look like young business professionals. Very odd indeed.

Most locals seem to be walking up our road - private but we let the public up it as long as they take their dog waste with them. All I would say to people on new walks is please do be respectful eg we are not allowed (conservation area) blocked in gates so you can see right in my garden. Probably 1 in 3 people walking up day in day out stare right in which is a bit rude and they stop and look. Secondly we havve had a lot more litter - so much in the woods opposite (which never have litter as people around here never drop it) the council have cleared it this week and shut the car park. If you do a new walk drop nothing ever.

Also please keep walking. One man with an awful cough has been stopping in my drive way and making very long phone calls which he could surely make at home so I have had to slam the door to kind of make him aware he is standing right outside our house - by all means walk but don't keep stopping - also all the very loud phone calls as people walk is a bit of a nuisance -= some of us are used to utter silence in the garden and might not want o know all your personal business as you chat to your friend or walk up the road.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 09/04/2020 22:19

🤣 Oh gosh the horror that people might talk outside your house 🤣.

TheLongRider · 09/04/2020 22:19

In Dublin the junction boxes for the lights are painted by different artists. You can find more pictures @DublinCanvas on Twitter. This is one near me.

Littering is never acceptable, obviously, but surely if you don’t like people walking up your private road, put up a sign saying it’s private and nor a public right of way? Especially if, as it sounds, your house is right on the road.

Sennetti · 09/04/2020 22:21

@TheLongRider omg!! i've just googled them, they are amazing!

On one of my bike rides up Cragg Vale (Calderdale) there’s a long privet hedge that has been shaped to look like a dragon and has a face on the front.

bettybattenburg · 09/04/2020 22:26

Cute rather than odd, I often walk past a field with a group of llamas in it. Makes a change from sheep

Same Grin I love it as we had llamas where my family lived and so it reminds me if there and of them

Wincarnis · 09/04/2020 22:35

I have seen a woman walking along cleaning her teeth (with toothbrush), frequently see people in pyjamas walking their dogs, a few walk of shamers, and one neighbour still has the Christmas lights up

BunnytheBee · 09/04/2020 22:37

My neighbour had a little lamb in her garden yesterday. Hadn’t seen it before and haven’t seen it since...

8Track · 09/04/2020 22:48

Someone near me has a very large (6 foot?) stuffed lion toy in their porch. It's been there for months.

Its wearing a face mask now.

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 09/04/2020 22:52

There's a row of houses near us which have a huge wisteria growing across them. Might be 10 houses in a row. It must have been there years to grow that big - who prunes it? Always makes me wonder what happens if you're in the middle and don't want it anymore!
