CMS- Father's name?

CMSquestion · 08/04/2020 20:04

I've contacted CMS and have been told that to make an application I need the full name of my DD's father.

I have his first and second name (not his middle) but they've said that this isn't sufficient. The only other information I have is his parents names (again not their middle names), his previous address (can't remember the house number), and his DOB.

Is there a way I can find out his middle name or get around it without this? He's blocked me on all SM no thats no good (and I doubt it would be on there), he has a very common first and second name so unlikely I will be able to trace it online, and I know he's self employed but I haven't got enough information to find anything on job profiles/ linkedIn etc, also have no mutual friends.

Has anyone got any idea's?

Get a copy of his birth certificate.

192 people?

LarkDescending · 08/04/2020 21:28

Try looking for his birth registration on FreeBMD (assuming he was born in England/Wales). Depending on the time period it may be indexed in full, including middle name.

www.freebmd.org.uk

NB FreeBMD is a work in progress - if he is young it may be that they haven’t covered his registration yet.

Electoral roll? Do you know where he works?

CMSquestion · 09/04/2020 10:27

I've tried the birth cirtificate but it's coming up with multiple of his name so I wouldn't know which one is his without knowing his place of birth.

I've also had a look on 192 people and the same is happening, and I think you have to pay? I'm happy to do this I'm just unsure I'll be able to tell which one is him as others have the same name/DOB.

Tbh having a child with someone and not knowing them well enough to know their middle name

What a spectacularly helpful contribution.

OP, if you get no joy otherwise it may be worth asking your MP for help with the CSA if they’re any good?

JassyRadlett · 09/04/2020 10:33

CMS, rather.

AnonymityIsGreat · 09/04/2020 10:34

Have you tried searching his name plus the previous address street name on 192? If he was on the electoral role there, that should work but it might not show his middle name. I know I only show up with my middle initial.

perniciousdot · 09/04/2020 10:36

Which country?

I'm scotland you can look up the national records which could be helpful.

CMSquestion · 09/04/2020 12:14

@Fantasiaa always one, please educate yourself!

I've tried with his previous address and name but it's not matching any searched for soem reason. Even the initial would be helpful as it would most likely jog my memory a bit!

I'm in Britain, do you know how you look up the records?

Thanks for all the helpful advice!

My point is the we seem to be going though an epidemic of women having children with men they barely know only to complain a few years later that he doesn’t see the kids and they can’t get child maintenance.

SarahAndQuack · 09/04/2020 13:18

Yes, poor men. All these women having children with them, and them powerless to do owt about it.

perniciousdot · 09/04/2020 13:32

I'm in Britain, do you know how you look up the records?

Again, which country Confused

JassyRadlett · 09/04/2020 13:35

^ Evidence for this ‘epidemic’?

SoupDragon · 09/04/2020 13:36

I've tried the birth cirtificate but it's coming up with multiple of his name so I wouldn't know which one is his without knowing his place of birth.

But you know his parents' names.

midnightstar66 · 09/04/2020 13:37

Does he definitely even have a middle name? How do they know he does? Although if he's self employed I probably wouldn't bother. You won't get any money out of him via CMS

BuffaloCauliflower · 09/04/2020 13:39

If you know his parents names does that not help narrow down the right birth certificate?

@Fantasiaa but not an ‘epidemic’ of feckless men impregnating women and then fucking off and not supporting their kids, no? Clearly it’s only up to women Hmm

Fantasiaa · 09/04/2020 14:00

In the vast majority of cases, these feckless men are impregnating women consensually.

I’m of the opinion that as it’s women who have to deal with being single parents & the bulk of the ramifications of having a child, we should be the ones to control who we allow to get us pregnant.

Women need to make better choices as to the father of their children.

Case closed.

Not going to derail this thread any further. I hope that OP is successful in her CMS claim and hopefully chooses a better father for her next child. Wink

CMSquestion · 09/04/2020 14:04

@Fantasiaa that's far from the truth. Have you not considered rape? Contraception failure? Don't go judging someone without knowing their situation.

And as for the birth cirtificate, unless I'm doing it wrong, it's just coming up with a list of all those with the same name, it's not giving me any information about his parents etc unless I proceed to pay for it which in that case I won't know if I've got the right person, assuming I may be doing this wrong?

Also, he definately has a middle name, I've just completely forgotten it!

OP posts:
ArnoldBee · 09/04/2020 14:20

You can order a certificate with parents names as a checkpoint and if they dont match the gro will hive you a full or partial refund though if you're too specific then they may do this to the correct one which you'll never know about! CMS are asking for this information to make sure they have the right person. If you are struggling how do you expect them to know which David Smith it is? The more information that you give them will help them with this. It may be that they have tried to find him and cant with the details you have so far provided.

Fantasiaa · 09/04/2020 14:27

If you reread what I said I said “ in the vast majority of case”. Reading is a fundamental skill. The vast majority of pregnancies are not conceived from rape and most contraceptive failures are due to failings of the user rather than the contraception itself.

JassyRadlett · 09/04/2020 14:31

If you reread what I said I said “ in the vast majority of case”. Reading is a fundamental skill.

Another fundamental skill is being able to evidence an assertion. Can you share your statistics for ‘the vast majority of cases?’

CMSquestion · 09/04/2020 14:42

@ArnoldBee thank you, I will have another look.

@Fantasiaa 'and hopefully chooses a better father for her next child' completely contradicts what you have just said. Being coherant is a fundamental skill.
