Anyone camping in their back garden?

DH wants to camp in the back garden this weekend with 9 year old DD. We were due to go camping properly but obviously now can't. I'm in two minds as it's not like we can do much really. Anyone done / doing it and how did it go?

Ds12 is sleeping out by himself in the little tent every night this month for the Scouts Camp At Home challenge! We're completely enclosed with locked gates so it's perfectly safe before anyone starts...

I've done this in the past to test tents and for fun with young children.

It's nice if you have a stove and can toast marshmallows etc or make hot chocolate and have the full outdoor experience (maybe with the exception of using the toilet in the house).

It might depend on your garden and how private it is.

Mine is fairly ok at night.

We're planning on doing this tomorrow or Friday night. We're lucky to have a fairly private garden.

I would have done this in my former gardens - would have loved it - not so much in my small courtyard.

We are planning to do this over the weekend, probably Friday. The kids wanted to do it as soon as school was out but it was -5 overnight so I said no.
Our garden is seen from the road to anyone driving by but I don't mind that. We're out there most of the day so it's not that different.

If we had a tent we'd be so be doing this. I suggested it to DH but he almost fell over laughing at the thought of me camping as I'm known for liking my home comforts. Also our secure back garden isn't flat enough for a tent and we'd probably roll downhill during the night.

Yeah, we're doing it. Tent on the lawn; bbq; fire in the firepit; toasted marshmallows; even wild wees in the middle of the night... why not?

Tbh, we usually pitch a small tent in the garden in the Whitsun holiday and just move it around the lawn until we take it down in October. My daughter has all her sleepovers in there through the summer and often sleeps out on her own anyway.

check out abbie barnes on youtube - there are great garden campout events and tips etc

We've done this lots in the past, both sleeping out with them when they were little and then leaving them on their own. (12 and 10). It's fine, they love the adventure. They know they can come in if they want - we leave them a key.
