Advice on DDs verruca please

Obviously pales into insignificance wrt current health concerns but I wondered if anyone could advise me if this is normal with a verruca. I've never had one myself & this is the first one DD (7) has had.

It appeared at the beginning of January and I got some Bazuka which I've applied daily since then but it's not shifting. It's actually grown bigger and now seems to be protruding quite a lot but she says it doesn't hurt to walk on or feel sore.

DH says he remembers filing his after the application of Bazuka dries and there should of been a file in the box.... I threw the box away but 99% sure there wasn't anything else in there and the instructions didn't mention filing.

Do they normally hang around for this long?

I've had one for 8 years. I've used all of the otc brands, had it frozen, plus used all of the old wives banana skin apple cider gaffer tape ideas.

It's never shifted.

Yes, you should have had a file. I'd just leave it, they go on their own eventually in my experience.

My past searches for this on Mumsnet revealed painting with black (or v dark other colour) nail varnish, worked on DD.
The idea is deprive it of oxygen and light. Duct tape also worked but can be hard to keep on.

KnittingNurse · 07/04/2020 17:40

We had this problem- Bazuka just seemed to make it look worse. I used a nail file on it for a few days in a row and it mostly went away and has since completely disappeared.

nordstrom · 07/04/2020 17:45

Whole heartedly recommend the duck tape method! Ds had a really stubborn hideous one for ages and it worked an absolute dream.

WhiteVixen · 07/04/2020 17:48

Tea tree oil applied daily with a cotton bud and then a plaster over the top. Do it before bed and then keep the plaster on as long as possible the next day, repeat at bed time. Only took a few days of that before I found a hole in my daughters foot and no verruca to be seen. Now I’m battling a wart on her finger that is refusing to budge Angry

Appuskidu · 07/04/2020 17:50

I got rid of DS’s by painting it with nail varnish every night for a week-it just fell out!

ShowOfHands · 07/04/2020 17:52

If it's not causing a problem, you can ignore it as it will go eventually in most cases. But yes you should file it if using bazuka.

DD had a bad and painful one and bazuka wasn't working. DD eventually admitted she was picking the bazuka off in bed.

BunnytheBee · 07/04/2020 17:57

I used something recently, salactol or something like that, salycilic acid based as Dr recommended. It came with a file and worked really well. It was the filing and picking at it that made it go.

frogsbreath · 07/04/2020 17:58

Yes they go away but it can take ages. We used the same stuff on my ds when he was 7.

There should be a nail file in the box but I guess any would do. You need to soak the previous days gel coat off then file the verrucca then reapply the gel.

TheClitterati · 07/04/2020 18:01

Bazuka didn't work for my DD's verucca.
We got some verucca acid stuff from the pharmacy, and a small pack of nail files - about £3 the lot.
Each night I gently filed the verucca, applied the solution, covered with a band aid. Took a couple of weeks to get rid of the verucca.

Mintjulia · 07/04/2020 18:12

I tried the freeze off spray on ds, but it didn’t work, so I soaked some cotton wool in ACV, and taped it to the verruca every night. It fell off after 10 nights.

OuterMongolia · 07/04/2020 18:13

In my experience, yes to combining bazuka with filing. It takes ages and then suddenly it disappears.

H1978 · 07/04/2020 18:16

We just rid of dd9s verruca about a month ago she’d had it for a good 6/7 months and it was getting huge

I got some Salicylic acid from the boots pharmacist counter used every night for three months and file once a week it dried up and then dh pulled it out, was pretty scary, it left a huge crater in her toe but healed over within a few weeks

Hope it gets better soon

augustusglupe · 07/04/2020 18:16

I had a big one in the centre of my foot. I actually had it for 15 years. I had it frozen, then again 2 weeks later and again 2 weeks after that. I honestly didn’t expect it to work but it did. After the 3rd blast, it went hard and fell off to reveal normal skin. That was a few years ago and it’s not come back.
