Cross stitch pattern

Hey guys!! So during this lockdown, I've started a cross stitch pattern. This is my first time and I have a question. As you can see from the pattern, black thread is needed for his feet and his beak and eyes. How do I go from his feet to his beak? Do I just cut the thread and start again on his beak? Or try with the same thread?? I only have one thread of black thread with the set....

Cut the thread and start again.

Alternatively, run the black thread through other threads at the back, but it looks to me like that would use more thread than cutting and rejoining.

The measure of a good tapestry or cross stitch is not what it looks like at the front, but how neat it is at the back.
