Kindle vs paperwhite vs oasis

Hi All

I read loads of books, more so now! I had a kindle years ago, with the keyboard, which has now long gone. I'm planning to get a replacement but don't know which to go for: basic kindle, paperwhite or the oasis? Does anyone own any of these and have any thoughts? I'm tempted by the oasis but not sure if its worth the pricetag?
Thanks all

I have a Paperwhite and it really is the best thing for reading. DH falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. I like to read a little before going to sleep. I can do this with a Paperwhite because it is backlit.

I must admit that I have had to google the Oasis because I have never heard of it. Unless you read in the bath a lot I'm not sure whether it is worth it.

I'd probably just go for the basic kindle. The new one is also front lit and apparently almost indistinguishable from the paperwhite, but is not waterproof. Oasis seems an awful lot of money for not much extra.

So unless you read in the bath, at the spa etc, the cheapest one is probably fine and is currently only £50.

I used to have the Voyage which was very similar to the paperwhite. When I had to replace it I chose the Oasis on the basis of water proofing and physical buttons.

The one handed shape is definitely a little more comfortable but unless you really want waterproofing or the price has come down a lot I don't think the Oasys is worth the quite considerable price increase.

paperwhite
the Oasis is funny to hold. I got DH one for waterproofing, but now the Paperwhite is waterproof.

I read in the bath a lot, and as the paper white is now waterproof I went for that when my old paper white was on the way out

Its the voyage i have but they don't make it any more. Kids have paperwhites

I love my paperwhite. I previously had a normal kindle but it's too heavy and shiny, much prefer the paperwhite.

The newer paperwhites also play audiobooks with bluetooth headphones. May be a factor for you

Unless you're wanting to stick with Amazon, also take a look at Kobo. They have a link to Overdrive, so you can read library ebooks on them. They're also open source, so you can buy books from anywhere. (Apart from Amazon, their books only work on Kindles and in reverse Kindles only let you buy books from Amazon).

I really like my Kobo. It's been so reliable, I almost want it to break do I can buy one of their new ones with better features!

I’m gutted they don’t still do the Voyage. Best one by far IMO - I prefer physical buttons.

I personally don’t think it’s worth the extra money for a paper white or oasis (As it’s quite a lot more pricey for buttons) when the basic front lit one does the same thing.

Mine also had audio function. It was I think £70? With adverts. They’re honestly not an issue.

Thanks for all the replies :-) i think i'm going to go with the paperwhite :-)
