Spot on!

OP posts:
stickman12 · 05/04/2020 20:43

It made me well up - no idea why I'm not like that!

Turefu · 05/04/2020 20:43

I said to my DH before speech: Queen addresses the nation. Things are bad.
But now I feel , in weird way, better, she cheered me up.
We meet again. Powerful stuff.

orangejuicer · 05/04/2020 20:44

Made me teary as well. I wish we could see an end to this.

Wheresthebeach · 05/04/2020 20:45

First time I’ve watched any of her speeches as an adult. I admit I was hoping that with all their money she’d be announcing how the RF will be actually, you know, helping. A good speech, but fundamentally meaningless.

KellyHall · 05/04/2020 20:45

I cried. I think she's wonderful.

beautifulteeth · 05/04/2020 20:47

I love the Queen

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/04/2020 20:49

She did look so sad.

We'll meet again raised a wry smile here, poignant.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 05/04/2020 20:49

@daisypond the Queen is very religious so I found ‘we will meet again’ appropriate, i.e. in this life or the next.

I thought it was a calm, measured message. Zero politics or anything that will date when the guidelines change. All heart.

Pat123dev · 05/04/2020 20:53

There’s another post slating her, I saw the title to post HM the queen, and thought, that’s where I need to be.

I loved it, every word.

loumoo · 05/04/2020 20:57

I’ve just come out of a newborn sleep deprived haze where I spent my days cluster feeding on the couch and binge watching The Crown. I watched it so much I feel like she’s a mate Grin

Love her and loved the speech. I was sobbing at the reference to 1940, although possibly still hormonal.

Arseit · 05/04/2020 21:02

Great speech by The Queen - love her.

Nonnymum · 05/04/2020 21:06

I'm not a royalist but I thought she hit the right note. I was also struck by how well she looked.

hellsbells99 · 05/04/2020 21:09

It was very moving - a very good speech

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2020 21:12

Very good speech, it hit exactly the right tone.

LunaDeet · 05/04/2020 21:14

I love The Queen.

EffervescentElephant · 05/04/2020 21:14

Honestly? Platitudes. Empty words.

Angel2702 · 05/04/2020 21:16

I wasn’t that fussed about watching it but just watched it online and it was quite moving, not what I expected.

Inforthelonghaul · 05/04/2020 21:17

Loved it and thought it was perfectly understated and spot on. We are a resilient people and we will come through this. Thank goodness we’re not having to send our kids away to total strangers to be safe we just need to stick to the rules to have the best chance. She has seen so much in her lifetime and she always makes me feel proud.

IsolatedIzzy · 05/04/2020 21:17

I think the 1940 bit was quite poignant because she talked about Margaret, her sister who she was obviously very close to & must miss very much. It made me cry! She was awesome!

FlamingoAndJohn · 05/04/2020 21:18

I know it’s not very fashionable on here to like her but I loved that.

beepbeeprichie · 05/04/2020 21:18

I thought she was excellent. It made me well up too. It’s so fashionable on here to loathe the royal family and any sort of patriotism is deemed akin to racism.

halcyondays · 06/04/2020 00:43

It was very moving especially when she mentioned making her first speech with her sister in 1940.

Ohdearymeshame · 06/04/2020 00:59

Wonderful speech. Just what I needed after a hard day. Bit of leadership with hope.

Pogmella · 06/04/2020 08:33

I think they timed it well and probably knew the PM may be hospitalised. Meant they could release the news and we wouldn’t freak out that no one was in charge

MuseumOfYou · 06/04/2020 08:44

I found it really moving, had a few tears too.
