...to the things you really love, except for when you don't? My examples:

  • I love coffee...except when I think someone's likely to offer me instant. Then I'll ask for tea.
  • I love white wine...except when it's cold and wet. Then I want red.
  • I love swimming...except when the water's really cold, then you haven't a hope of getting me in.

Let's try to keep it light please!!

Sausages? Lovely. Yorkshire puddings? Lovely.
Toad in the hole? Away with you.

bebumba · 06/04/2020 07:47

Tomatoes and bread.
I love sandwiches.
I love tomatoes.
The two together. Yuck!

exLtEveDallas · 06/04/2020 07:48

Tomatoes - I like as a soup, ketchup, or cooked down in a bolognaise or chilli but otherwise, yuk. Not even as a pizza base.

Celery - love it raw but if it’s in a soup/stew (as a mirepoix) it has to be chopped into tiny barely there pieces.

Fruit - love most fruit (except Mango but has to be real. Cannot stand fruit flavoured stuff.

Mango - hate. Except Mango chutney with a curry or on a cracker with white stilton.

springydaff · 06/04/2020 07:55

I believe cakes have also been made from courgette and beetroot. God knows why.

Have you ever had one? My friend makes unbelievably good vegan cakes with beetroot and stuff

But I dont fit on this thread, I'll eat anything, me

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/04/2020 07:56

Ah, tomato. Love them. Raw - yes, soup - yes, cooked into ragu - yes, pizza sauce - yes. But the grilled ones you get with a full English or steak, just no, don't let them near my plate please.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/04/2020 07:57

I made a chocolate and beetroot cake once. It was revolting.

Seriously79 · 06/04/2020 07:57

Cherry Bakewell - I could eat them all day everyday, love them. Give me some cherries and I will vomit 🤢

OuterMongolia · 06/04/2020 07:57

Love fudge - but only if it's crumbly, not chewy.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/04/2020 08:13

Agree about fudge @OuterMongolia. Preferably only plain or vanilla too, I don't go for fancy flavours.

OuterMongolia · 06/04/2020 08:16

Yes @ExpletiveDelighted! Rum and raisin fudge - wtf?

timeforawine · 06/04/2020 08:19

@OhTheRoses they sound amazing! How do you make them?

NewName54321 · 06/04/2020 08:35

Bananas, so long as they are ripe but not over-ripe.

Tomato products - ketchup, soup, pizza, bolognaise etc., but not a fresh tomato. This list only includes Baked Beans if they are mashed.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/04/2020 09:07

Coffee yes but instant no. If if it's even slightly too cool, absolutely no way. This makes it very hard to linger over a cup of coffee because it's always going cold.
I have had to relax my rules in microwaved hot drinks in order to compensate for the temperature issue

SuperMeerkat · 06/04/2020 09:19

A bacon sandwich can only be the following:

Sainsburys finest oak smoked streaky bacon, well done (but not like frazzles)
Lurpack butter
Warbutons seeded bread
If I’m having an egg with it then it must be the blue Aldi ones.

I never order anything with bacon when I go out as I just can trust that it will be done to my standards 😂😂 Anything else I’m ok with.

SuperMeerkat · 06/04/2020 09:20

*can’t trust

Twix42 · 06/04/2020 09:21

Fruit - yes
Ice cream - yes
Fruit and Ice Cream together - absolutely not shudder.

BikeRunSki · 06/04/2020 10:29

Tea, gallons, but it must be hot.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/04/2020 12:36

Gammon yes
Pineapple yes

Together - bleurgh

WarmSausageTea · 06/04/2020 13:27

Love pizza, prawns and pineapple individually, but prawns and/or pineapple on pizza is every kind of wrong.

Milk and cream fine, rice fine. Rice pudding? Just no.

Polkadotpjs · 06/04/2020 13:27

Poached eggs but any sign of "snotty" white and I'll cry into my food and leave it all. I don't order them any more.
Toasted tea cake- too risky- many are too big and just do dry.
I'm so petulant about food I annoy myself

JigsawsAreInPieces · 06/04/2020 13:41

Tea must be strong and not a wishy-washy anaemic insult to the word tea if in doubt I’ll choose coffee.

I love oranges and orange juice but will not eat or drink anything which is orange flavour

I will not eat soft boiled eggs but will happily eat the scraping a from a bowl of cake batter which contains raw egg. Confused

iklboo · 06/04/2020 13:56

Bacon butty? Yes please. If the fat is on or streaky bacon? No thanks.

Tomatoes fresh or tinned? Yes please. Grilled with a steak. No thank you.

BikeRunSki · 06/04/2020 16:42

GrouchyKiwi who puts vegetables in a cake???

School dinners. To be fair, I’ve done courgette chocolate cake with very finely grated courgette. This breaks down completely but makes the cake really moist.
Chocolate beetroot cake is meh.
Carrot can can be delicious
Parsnip cake is revolting

BikeRunSki · 06/04/2020 16:45

Swimming - love it, pool, sea, river, lake
Cycling - My best thing
Running - not bad after 10 mins
Triathlon - nope, never had any desire, not even the one in my village.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 06/04/2020 17:17

Yes to fish in batter
no to steamed fish

no to peanut butter

Yes to butter on bread
