Really struggled! Eventually had to get a massive 1kg bag of yeast on ebay.

Samcro · 05/04/2020 18:57

My bread maker only uses the fast yeast, can't get it anywhere

StatementKnickers · 05/04/2020 18:57

Got bread flour in Lidl this week!

I got sachets of yeast from Ocado this morning. Had to book the slot 3 weeks ago mind you.

Haven't looked for Spelt.

PorpentinaScamander · 05/04/2020 19:07

I've got 8 sachets of fast yeast. But no bread flour. I've got one small bag of bread mix though. And 2 full loaves of bread. And wraps.

I ended up ordering a sack of flour from Shipton Mill online. Came a few days later. Very pleased with it and a great price, cheaper than the supermarket and much better quality.

MinorArcana · 05/04/2020 19:28

Haven’t seen any flour or yeast for weeks in any of the shops round here.

fluffiphlox · 05/04/2020 19:38

Shipton Mill isn’t doing much online currently neither is Bakery Bits. No spelt in Tesco or
Waitrose.

I have flour and some yeast, im only making wholemeal bread as it uses less.

Samcro · 05/04/2020 19:49

What is spelt?

fluffiphlox · 05/04/2020 19:54

Spelt is a type of wheat. Older than modern wheat. It’s what we make our bread out of.

Yeast is apple mould from the skin

You can harvest it by dunking the apples in water

Look it up online

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/04/2020 20:03

Apparently there is plenty of flour it's a packaging problem. The Mills are used to packing in bulk for caterers and can't cope with the extra demand for domestic sized packs. People are baking more stuck at home but if you want to buy a sack you should be fine. I don't know if I can link yo the article on my phone.

Frariedeamin · 05/04/2020 20:28

You can grow your own yeast from raisins and other dried fruit. It’s quite a fun project!

misscockerspaniel · 05/04/2020 20:33

It might be worth trying Holland and Barrett and/or other health shops for spelt flour.

OldSpeclkledHen · 05/04/2020 21:21

Ahhh fuck yeast dammit 🙄🙄

Whynotnowbaby · 05/04/2020 21:28

Yes, make your own yeast. It’s quite easy as pps said but not sure you’ll be able to mill your own flour!
