So I'm lucky enough to finally do a click n collect today. Anyone used this since lock down? How does it work? Do they load it into your car boot? Did you have to do it? Are they using carrier bags? Someone told me they use carrier bags for doorstep deliveries so wondering if the same?

I'm majorly anxious about shopping in general at the moment so may be overthinking this.

Hi OP, I organised a tesco C&C for my elderly dad who lives a distance away from me & he collected yesterday, guy in hi-vis at entrance to carpark directed dad to collection point, dad stayed in car, opened boot, shopping loaded in (all in bags) & then drove off....most impressed, helpful staff, no subs & a complete order 👍

What about sainsburies?

We have a slot later this week having been inside for 3 weeks now ( we locked ourselves away early due to underlying health problems) and now I am feeling scared

I’ve been wondering the same, I usually get a home delivery but can only get a Tesco C&C. Obviously I’ve selected a time slot and I’m wondering if you just turn up at anytime within the two hours (think it was two hours?) or are you texted a specific time to collect the order?

If it works the same way as my local Tesco then this is what I do:

Back into a parking bay in the Click and Collect zone. They are numbered so make a note of your number.

There is a touch screen where you enter your surname and the bay number (one screen for the entire zone) so if you can, wear gloves or take hand sanitizer for afterwards.

It records that you have arrived. Go back to your car. I stand by the boot.

Then someone comes out from the warehouse area with your shopping in crates on a flat trolley. Currently all shopping is in plastic bags. They leave the trolley about 2m away and then stand back and ask you to check your receipt to make sure any substitutions are acceptable. They go back into the warehouse.

You load everything into your car yourself. Push the trolley and empty crates back to roughly where they left it and leave. They come out and take it away when you go

I had a Sainsburys one in the week. I had to park up next to a delivery van and the guy left the crates next to the car. I then packed into the boot. A glass bottle of salad dressing had smashed into one of the crates with glass all over food so 1/3 of the shop I couldn’t take home annoyingly Hmm

Thanks missmeg*!

Madison I didn't think of that! I was just going to turn up at some point during the time slot. It doesn't make it clear. I thought they must have a set amount of people booked in at each slot. Ive already written out my order number on a piece of paper to hold up against the car window!

Usually park near to the area where click n collect is but haven't ever noticed a touch screen to key into?

Using a touchscreen in this climate can't be good, can it? I also assumed they put it in your boot for you but obviously not all of them.

Anyone know about Morrisons? I've got my first ever click & collect next week Confused

midgebabe · 05/04/2020 10:54

Thanks lily

midgebabe · 05/04/2020 10:57

I was planning to take one or two wet soapy flannels ?

Onceateacher · 05/04/2020 11:34

Tesco a week ago, turned up any time within the two hours, no other cars there when I arrived so pulled in as normal. There's no touchscreen at our store. Young man comes out, we stay apart asks for name. He did hand me the print out of my order which seemed a bit close! Then he pushed the crates over to me and I put the stuff in my boot. It was all in bags again so quick to do. That was it. When I first arrived he did ask me if I was vulnerable or self-isolating, so perhaps he would have done something different if I was.

Elouera · 05/04/2020 11:39

Not sure about tescos, but with asda, they don't ALL have a drive up collection point! Its mentioned when you book though whether its a carpark collection or in-store. My local, non-extra store, you have to physically go inside the shop to collect!

DinosApple · 05/04/2020 12:08

Our Tesco doesn't have a touch screen. You just drive into the click and collect bay (or wait in a queue behind the other vehicles). When it's your turn just let the person know your name.

Turn up any time within the 2 hour slot.

SentimentalKiller · 05/04/2020 12:16

I haven't managed to get a click and collect since lock down but used them before
At my tesco you drive into the covered click and collect place. Your shopping is in one of their delivery vans. They take out the trays and you transfer the shopping to your car

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 05/04/2020 12:19

Is it possible to do this without a car? If I can get a slot I'm going to have to just load everything onto the pushchair.

Onceateacher · 05/04/2020 12:57

Well yes in theory - there is usually a minimum spend so check that but I think it's only about £40 so as long as you can fit that much shopping on.

BirdInABush · 05/04/2020 21:08

Just to let you know I did my collection. The tesco man put the crates down for thr people in front. They got out of the car to load their shopping but the tesco man didn't distance himself much! I didn't get out of my car. I held a piece of paper up to the glass which said that Im self isolating and will open the boot from inside the car and would he mind loading it in. Thanks very much. He did. It was the quickest and safest way. I would recommend anyone to do that. Stay safe.
