Bit of a silly question; I have been taking paracetamol pretty much every 4 hours for 2 days due to severe periods pain. Will I be okay to continue with them for the next 24 hours

Yes, I think that will be fine. They usually say after three days you should consult a doctor but I know when I asked once because of DD being in pain they said to take them for a week. Could you try ibuprofens? I often find that the more effective against period pain and paracetamol

I’ve been taking paracetamol everyday for 4 years. Can take up to 8 a day but I usually only take 4 a day (plus tramadol) for chronic pain. Prescribed by GP.

Ibuprofen is more effective than paracetamol for period pain.

You can't become addicted to paracetamol or ibuprofen. The recommended doses are intended to prevent you poisoning yourself by taking too much. Not to prevent addiction.

probably not
not because they are addictive but because an overdose can make your liver pack in.

how many tablets did you take in total?
the max you should take without close medical supervision is 4x2 tablets in 24 hours.

PurpleDaisies · 04/04/2020 15:50

You shouldn’t be taking it more than four times a day.

Paracetamol isn’t addictive.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 04/04/2020 15:51

Addicted, no, but you mustn’t take them more than 4 times a day, because there is a small but real risk of overdose above that level and you have no way of knowing your individual susceptibility.

PurpleDaisies · 04/04/2020 15:52

You can safely take ibuprofen with paracetamol. It doesn’t need to be one or the other. Ibuprofen should be take with food, and some people can’t take ibuprofen so you need to check first.

Thank you everyone, I have some ibuprofen so will take them. I know after tomorrow I will be fine, I always have a couple of days of this pain Sad

Me too-it’s rotten.

Now I take cocodomol and ibuprofen for the first few days which helps a lot. That might be worth trying.

Feel better soon. Flowers

SteeperThanHell · 04/04/2020 16:33

No you can't.

caz114 · 04/04/2020 16:50

Ibuprofen acts better as it is an anti-inflammatory for period pain.
